    The Election of 1800
    The Election of 1800 was between democratic republicans, Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr. At the end of the election they tied with 73 votes and had to have Alexander Hamilton be the deciding vote. Of course his deciding vote was for Thomas Jefferson.
  • Jefferson's Inaugural Address

    Jefferson's Inaugural Address
    In Thomas Jefferson's speech he talks about how having a strong government is a better decision than being ruled by a king. He states "I believe this, on the contrary, the strongest government on earth." But his opponents preferred a traditionally powerful central government.

    The Louisiana Purchase doubles the size of the US by adding 828,000 acers of land to it. Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe were very close friends but as a result of the Louisiana Purchase Monroe went bankrupt. The purchase later led to the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

    Lewis and Clark Expedition
    The main purpose of the Lewis and Clark Expedition was to find a route to the Pacific Ocean. This expedition was also known as the Corps of Discovery. This was the first American expedition to cross the western portion of the US.

    Napoleon was a military leader who led many successful campaigns during the French Revolutionary Wars. He was emperor of the French from 1804 until 1814. There was also a bank under him that was known as the "Bank of France."

    The Embargo Act is an act that banned all trade with the United States. Thomas Jefferson supported this act and Congress enacted it. The purpose of this was to force Britain and France to respect American rights.

    Slavery was a very big issue at the Constitution Convention that couldn't be fixed. As a result of this America abolished it in 1807. There was an agreement on a provision to end the slave trade.

    The Nonintercourse Act was also know as the Indian Intercourse Act. This name was given to six statues passed by Congress. This act was meant to destroy the economies of Britain and France.

    As a result of America's desire to expand its' territory and British restrictions on trade the War of 1812 began. This war led to the Battle of New Orleans, the Treaty of Ghent, and so much more. Britain is the greatest naval power in the world and the US decided to take them on.

    The Treaty of Ghent was a treaty that ended the War of 1812 which was between Britain and the US. After the treaty was signed the war was ended but that news didn't make it to New Orleans in time. As a result of this, the Battle of New Orleans began.

    James Monroe was a founding father and was the 5th president of the United States. His presidency lasted between 1817 and 1825. He is best know for the Monroe Doctrine.

    Construction of the Erie Canal Begins
    The construction of the Erie Canal began in Rome, New York. The first part of the Erie Canal would move east of Rome to the Hudson River. Many of the people who helped build the canal were wealthy farmers.

    The Treaty of 1818 was also commonly known as the Convention of 1818. This treaty was made to resolve border issues between Britain and the US. One of the articles of the treaty protected fishing rights on the shores of Newfoundland Labrador.

    The Missouri Compromise was passed in 1820 by the 16th Congress. This was meant to try and prevent any kind of civil war taking place. This was also well know as the first legislative compromise.

    The Monroe Doctrine was made so that the US couldn't interfere with European nations. They also couldn't interfere with economies that already existed in Northern and Southern countries. The western hemisphere is off limits to all future colonies.
