    Charles was one of the two kings in the Stuart Dynasty. The other king was James, and they are one of the causes of the English Revolution.

    Until the King signed the Petition of Right, parliament refused to give him money. This limited the powers of the king greatly.
  • The English Civil War

    (1642-164) Although Charles signed the Petition of Right, he ignored it. He started to do things without the Parliament's consent. This led to abuse of power which started the English Civil War.
  • King Charles was beheaded

    After the English Civil War, parliament defeated all of the King's forces. The result of this led to the decapitation of Charles for treason.

    Oliver Cromwell led a military dictatorship that left the people upset. In order to not repeat the past, English Parliament reconvened and voted to restore the monarch. This lead to Charles the second taking the throne.

    After the death of Charles the second, James became king. He violated laws, appointed Catholics, and was far less cooperative. His reign led to the dissolving of Parliament.

    Parliament reached out to James' daughter Mary. She was invited to invade England in order to overthrow her dad. This daunting task turned out to be easy after James had gone down without a fight.

    William and Mary become King and Queen and the English Bill of Rights was established
    Husband and wife, Mary and William become king and queen during the Revolution. They end up getting along with Parliament well and established a constitutional monarchy. During the same year, the English Bill of Rights was created. It stated that Parliament was in control of taxing, people couldn't be punished for asking the king to fix problems, no cruel and unusual punishment, and everyone got a fair trial.
