  • The Email was born

    The Email was born
    In 1971, Ray Tomlinson used the @ symbol to denote sending messages from one computer to another. In 1978, at 14 years old, V.A. Shiva Ayyadurai translated the conventional p. aper-based interoffice and interorganizational communication system to an electronic communication system. Ayyadurai was officially recognized as the inventor of the email on August 30, 1982.
  • Hotmail

    Hotmail
    Hotmail was created on July 4, 1996 by Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith. It has over 370 million users and 350 million office documents pass through Hotmail every month. Hotmail was sold to Microsoft in 1998 for over $400 million.
  • The first social media site, Six Degrees

    The first social media site, Six Degrees
    Six Degrees was launched on May 30, 1997 and was created by Andrew Weinreich. The site allowed users to create profiles and then friend other users. It also did the same for those who were not registered. The site was later sold in 1998 to YouthStream for $125 million. Six Degrees then closed on December 30, 2000.

    Facebook was launched on February 4, 2004, and was created by Mark Zuckerberg. On Facebook 8.7% of users are fake and 88% of users stalk their exes after a break up.

    Gmail is by Google and was created by Paul Buchheit on April 1, 2004. Gmail is used by billions of people around the world and our email accounts are Gmail. Just imagine! This is what the first email prospered into!

    YouTube
    YouTube was launched on February 14, 2005 and was created by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim. Google bought YouTube for $1.65 billion just 18 months after YouTube was launched. The most disliked video on YouTube is Justin Bieber's "Baby" with over 7.5 million dislikes.

    The first tweet was sent on March 21, 2006. Twitter was created by Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Biz Stone and Noah Glass. Twitter was almost called Friend Stalker but then changed to Twitter. The Twitter bird logo is named after basketball legend, Larry Bird, a former Boston Celtic's forward.

    Instagram was launched on October 6, 2010. It was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. Instagram has over 6 million users and over 280 million selfies. Facebook bought Instagram for $1billion on April 9, 2012.
  • Snapchat

    Snapchat
    Snapchat was launched on September 2011, and was created by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy and Reggie Brown. Original name was Picaboo. Snapchat added the birthday party feature on February 23, 2016. The feature allows users to put their birthday and then choose if they want a birthday cake emoji next to their name on their birthday for all of their friends to see.
