    Moishe the Beadle (Teacher in Kabbalah mysticism) escapes the work camps and return to warn the jews about the Nazis. No one listens and they think he's gone mad. Page 6-7.
  • The Nazis Take Over Sighet

    The Nazis Take Over Sighet
    Moishe the Beadle was right. The Germans arrived and immediately everyone went into a panic. But when they arrived they actually stayed for some time. Sometimes even in Jewish homes. They were actually quite polite. Page 8-9.

    It seems that the nazis normal behavior turned out to be abnormal. They were crammed in cattle cars with 80 people to a car. They didn't even have enough room for everyone to sit done. By the time they arrived in Auschwitz some people like Madam Schäcter had gone mad. Page 22-23.

    After Elie catching his kapo (Boss of the work camp blocks) in an embarrassing situation, Idek whips him 25 times across the stomach in public. And changes him to a different, harsher block. Page 57
  • The Death March

    The Death March
    They are forced out of the camp and to march in the freezing winter. Many Died. For kilometers, these people marched for their lives. If you stopped, you would be shot. If you fell, you would be trampled. The conditions were horrible and the actual reason for moving them was that the red army (soviet army) was approaching and the Nazis didn't want the jews to be liberated. As for the Germans, they got to sit on motorcycles and ride along. Page 84-85.
  • Elie Is On His Own

    After Elie and his dad arrive in Geiwitz and then later finish the march in Buchenwald, they finally can rest. But Elie's father is in bad condition. He can't even get up to go to the washroom. Elie does everything he can to help him, like giving extra rations and getting him water but its too late. His father was later beaten to death in his sleep. Page 111-112.
