Earth Timeline

  • 4600 BCE

    Primary Accretion Stage

Accretion is the process in which solid forms larger and larger objects and eventually planets are produced.
  • 4600 BCE

    Formation of the Sun

The sun formed more than 4.5 billion years ago, when a cloud of dust and gas called a nebula collapsed under its own gravity.
  • 4590 BCE

    Giant Impact stage

Four rock planets were located in the interior of the solar system, while there were two ice giants and two gas giants in the exterior of the solar system.
  • 4540 BCE

    Formation of the Moon

The moon was actually created by the debris of the Earth. A part of that became a molten gloop. It stayed in the orbit for a long time and eventually it became a moon.
  • 4500 BCE

    Late Accretion Stage

Planets start to crash into the Earth's surface.
  • 3800 BCE

    End of Heavy Bombardment

Small asteroids started to slam into larger worlds, scarring their surface.
  • 3000 BCE

    Planetary Cooling

This is the time when Earth starts to cool down and becomes the Earth we know now.
