Germany's invasion of Poland
On September 1, 1939, Germany invaded Poland. The Polish army was destroyed within weeks of the attack. From East Prussia and Germany in the north and Silesia and Slovakia in the south, German troops, with more than 2,000 tanks and over 1,000 planes, broke through Polish defenses. -
Operation Barbarossa
On 22 June 1941 Germany invaded the Soviet Union. Codenamed Operation Barbarossa. It was the largest military operation in history. It had more than 3 million Axis troops and 3,500 tanks. The army had lots of troops. -

Wansee Conference
On January 20, 1942, 15 the Nazi Party and German government officials gathered at a villa in the Berlin suburb of Wannsee. This was to discuss and coordinate the implementation of what they called the "Final Solution of the Jewish Question."The "Final Solution" was the code name for the systematic, deliberate, physical abuse of the European Jews. At some still undetermined time in 1941, Hitler authorized this European-wide scheme for mass murder. Heydrich convened the Wannsee Conference. -
Operation Gomorrah
Operation Gomorrah destroyed a significant percentage of the city of Hamburg, leaving over 1 million homeless and killing 40,000-50,000 civilians. In the immediate wake of the raids, over two-thirds of Hamburg's population fled the city. The raids severely shook the Nazi leadership, leading Hitler to be concerned that similar raids on other cities could force Germany out of the war. -

The battle of Okinawa, also known as Operation Iceberg, took place in April-June 1945. It was the largest amphibious landing in the Pacific theater of World War II. It also ended with the largest casualties with over 100,000 Japanese casualties and 50,000 casualties for the Allies. -
