    Used to enlarge army during WWII. If you got drafted, it meant it was mandatory of you to serve in the military during the war Source
  • Pearl Harbor Attack

    Pearl Harbor Attack
    Japanese fighter planes attacked Pearl Harbor, located near Honolulu, and destroyed almost 20 naval ships, and 300 airplanes. 2,403 Americans were killed, some civilians, and 1,000 more were wounded. This attack pushed the US to declare war on Japan. Source
  • Rations

    Rations
    Americans were told to ration food, clothing, and anything they could during WWII. The Government created the Food Rationing Program in 1942 to prevent anger to food shortages and to prevent the wealthy from getting more than everyone else. Some people planted "Victory Gardens" to conserve and have more food. according to u-s-history.com, "20 million victory gardens produced approximately 40% of America's vegetables. Source

    Camps created by FDR after Pearl Harbor to "house" anyone of Japanese descent. Essentially, it punished anyone who was any part Japanese for a crime they didn't commit Source
  • Rosie The riveter

    Rosie The riveter
    Rosie the Riveter was the icon used to help recruit female workers for defense industries during World War II due to the mass amount of male workers who were enlisted for the war. The Rosie The Riveter Campaign stressed the, " patriotic need for women to enter the workforce". Source
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    "D-Day" was the nickname given to the first day of the Battle of Normandy, which lasted from June to August. The invasion on Normandy required a lot of planning, and over 4,000 troops were wound, missing, or killed by the time the beaches were secured. Source

    Japanese suicide pilots who would dive into the battlefield in a plane, causing a massive explosion that could kill or wound anyone close enough, including the pilot. Source

    American soldiers raided and took down Auschwitz, the largest Holocaust concentration camp. There were about 6,000 prisoners released. Source

    The cold war mainly consisted of USA and the Soviet Union building up weaponry and intimidating on another. No shot was ever fired, thus making a cold war. Atomic weapons were developed from both parties and they were aimed at one another. Source
  • Hiroshima

    Hiroshima
    Hiroshima was bombed by the US with the first ever used atomic bomb. It killed 80,000 people with the initial blast, and more would die from radiation later on. A second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, killing around 40,000. Japan then surrendered to the US. most of the victims of the bombs were civilians. Source

    Jackie Robinson
    Jackie Robinson was the first African-American on a major league baseball team, his being the Brooklyn Dodgers. He had a .311 batting average, and was also a fighter for civil rights. Source
