    Frederick Banting (Medical Researcher) and his assistant Charles Best discovered Insulin using the pancreases of dogs and studying the islets of Langerhans. They isolated insulin the previous year, in 1921, and successfully lowered a test dog’s blood sugar. The following year, in 1923 they treated a 14-year-old boy who was dying of diabetes and saved his life. Banting and Best were awarded the Nobel Prize.

    The first organ transplant was formed on a 44-year-old woman named Ruth Tucker. She had polycystic kidney disease. Though five-months later the treatment was turned down due to the fact that it didn’t have any immunosuppressive therapy it did extend her life for five years. But these lead to many more discoveries like the first transplant of organs between living human beings which happened in 1954. This was also a step ahead for America compared to other countries like the U.K.

    On December 1, 1955 Rosa parks gave life to a civil rights movement that would sweep the nation. As an elderly woman with hurting feet and arms full of grocery bags Parks stood her ground on a bus when she was heading home after work. A white man boarded a bus that day and was looking for a seat. The front of the bus was full and the only places were in the back which was filled with blacks. It was a type of music for just the teens and more importantly it was a genre enjoyed by both whites and blacks. Over 20,000 civil rights supporters attended the speech. His speech played a major role in the American Civil Rights Movement.

Most victims were women, children (including infants), and elderly persons. Many were mutilated and it was evident that some women were raped prior to being murdered. 26 soldiers and a second lieutenant were charged, but only the second lieutenant, William Calley, was convicted.
