The Sumatra earthquake had a magnitude of 9.1 and killed 230,000 people. This earthquake had the energy of 23,000 Hiroshima-type atomic bombs. The epicenter of the quake was located in Indian Ocean near the west of Sumatra. -

The Samoa earthquake had a magnitude of 8.1 and killed a total of 200 people. The tsunami waves measured 4.5m at peak first arrived at Pago, Pago. This quake occurred at 6:48 a.m. -
