Resume How - Cover Letter Tips

  • Contact Inforamtion

    Contact Inforamtion
To begin your cover letter, as you would with any professional letter, include both the employer’s and your contact information at the top of the page. The Company name and address should appear at the top left of the letter. Your name and address should appear just below the company’s contact information.
  • Introduction

You should do some research about the company and specific position to which you are applying and, if possible, get the contact information for the specific person to whom you wish to write. This person should be the person responsible for hiring for the position to which you are applying. You should also introduce yourself.
  • Body

Sell Yourself - Describe how your previous job experiences, skills, and abilities will allow you to meet the company’s needs and how it will aid you in being successful in that position. Describe how you can contribute to the growth of the company.
  • Conclusion

Include a strong and confident closing and let them know you are excited about the possibility of future employment at their company. Employers want to know that individuals are energetic and want to work there! Include the best way to contact you with your phone number. Tell them that you’ll be in contact with them in a week if you don’t hear back. Finally, thank them for spending the time to read your letter.
  • Signature

Your signature should be professional and sign off with “Regards” or “Best Regards.” Leave a gap where you can personally sign off the letter with a black or blue pen. Finally, just below where you are signing, type out your printed name.
  • Proofread

Proofread your cover letter or have someone else read your cover letter to make sure there aren’t any grammar errors. You never want to send out a cover letter or resume that contains errors.
  • Final Cover Letter
