Northwest Ordinance
Considered one of the significant acts of the Continental Congress. Created a fedural territory by the Great Lakes in the north, then in the south to the Ohio River. Land Ordinance Act of 1784, this act prohinited slavery in the outlaw territory. But it didn't extend to other future states to be made in that territory. Congress declines undertake of bar slavery stirs abolitionist sentiments which connects to what caused civil war. -
Missouri Compromise
Was criticized by southerners because it accepected the ground rule that congress could make laws regarding slavery. Also forbids slavery in the north part of the Louisiana Purchase. Which connects to what caused the civil war. -
Annexation of Texas

Mexican American War 1846-1848
This war opened up vast territories for American growth and increase the slavery question. Which followed to the first U.S. armed conflict on soil. That's what started the Free Soil Party in 1848 -
Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
This ended the Mexican-American War in kindness to the United States. Also added 525,000 square miles to the U.S. territory. -
California Gold Rush
Most significant occurrence that formed American history during half of the 1900's. Gold miners were all over the sea and land around the San Franciso area. There was $2 billion worth of valuable metal taken from the area during the Gold Rush. -
Compromise of 1850
It included laws that admitted California as a free state, making Utah and New Mexico territories. Which left with the question in each territory if it's determined a slave state trade in D.C., and made it easier for the southerners to recover fugtive slaves. -
The Fugitive Slave Act 1850
This new law pressured citizens to assist in the arrest of runaway slaves. Also repulsed slaves the right to a jury trial and increased the penalty for standing in the way of rendition process to $1,000 and six months in jail. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Harriet Beecher put out her story " Uncle Tom's Cabin " in the south. President Lincoln meets with Harriet and he says to her " So you are are the little woman who wrote the book that made this great war". -
The Underground Railroad
This was a network for African Americans and whites, there was shelter given and first aid to the runaway slaves. They were coming from the south. It started from the late 1800's to the Civil War. -
