Cosmic Timeline

  • Big Bang

    Big Bang
big bang theoryThe Big Bang concept is that there was a giant meteor that hit earth millions of years ago. when the meteor hit earth it created a huge blanket of black dust that blocked the suns rays. This lasted for a long time and killed plants and animals.
  • Birth of The Earth

    Birth of The Earth
This is when the earth was first known to us formed.
  • Precambrian Time

    Precambrian Time
pThe Precambrian Period makes up 88% of earths history. Precambrian rocks are so deformed that we cannot interpret them today. During this period there were very few organisms the few that there were lived in stromalites.
  • Cambrian Time

    Cambrian Time
The Cambrian Period is the first period that we have actual recorded evidence of organisms. During this time there were many marine life forms that appeared.
  • Ordovician

    Ordovician
In the Ordovician Period there were more advanced marine life that was living. Clamlike Brachiopods and Cephloped Mollusks became the most dominant life forms for this time. Also during this time there was no plant life on planet so far.
  • Silurian

    Silurian
During the Silurian Period there were more and more different sea creatures that were appearing. One example was a scorpion like sea creature called a euryplerid. Also near the end of this period early land plants and animals evolved on land.
  • Devonian

    Devonian
The Devonian Period was also called the Age of Fishes. During this time there were many different fossils of fish that we have found. During this time some of the land plants that existed were horsetails, ferns, and seed bearing plants developed.
  • Carboniferous Missisipian Period

    Carboniferous Missisipian Period
During the Carboniferous Missispian Period forests and swamps covered much of the land. Also during this time rock that has major oil deposits were formed.
  • Carboniferous Pennsylvanian Period

    Carboniferous Pennsylvanian Period
During the Carboniferous Pennsylvanian Period there were amphibians and fish which continued to flourish. Also insects such as giant cockroaches(one in the picture) and dragonflies were common on land.
  • Permian

    Permian
permian A large amount of Paleozoic life forms occured at the end of the Permian Period. Also a major event that happened during this period is Pangea when continents joined. The collision of Pangea made the Appalachian Mountains.
  • Triassic

    Triassic
During the Triassic period there were dinosaurs that weighed more than 15 ton!! Also some the the lifeforms at this time were reptiles, marine vertabrae, and shellfish. Also during this time there were lush forests and cone bearing trees.
  • Jurassic

    Jurassic
During the Jurassic period Dinosaurs were the dominant life form on land. Two main dinosaurs were saurichians which were lizard hipped and ornithischians which were bird hipped. also from this period fossils of early birds were found in rock.
  • Cretaceous

    Cretaceous
Cretaceous flowering plants and birdsDuring the Cretaceous Period dinosaurs were still dominate. However a new dino appeared in the cretaceous the Tyrannosaurus Rex. Also during this period plant life became sophisticated angiosperms or flowering plants grew.
  • Tertiary, Paleocene 7A.M.

    Tertiary, Paleocene 7A.M.
The Tertiary ended in a mass extinction, after this period there were absolutey no dinosaur fossils found! This was because of the huge meteorite that hit that left a huge wave of black dust. The dust was so thick it blocked the sun rays. Therefore it got extremly cold wiping out all life.
  • Tertiary,Eocene 9A.M.

    Tertiary,Eocene 9A.M.
During the Eocene Period many new mammal like rodents had evolved. New ancestors lik the hore evolved. Small reptiles flourished. At this time the WorldWide temperature dropped 4'celsius toward the end othe the Eocene.
  • Tertiary,Oligocene 12P.M.

    Tertiary,Oligocene 12P.M.
during the Oligocene a Indian subcontinent began to collide with a Eurasian Continent which caused uplift. Because of the uplifted this created the Himalayan mountains.
  • Tertiary, Miocene 1 P.M.

    Tertiary, Miocene 1 P.M.
During the Miocene Period Circumpoltive currents formed around Antarctica. Aslo because of Tectonic forces the Mediterranean Sea dryed up and filled back up many times. Also raccoons and wolves arrived.
  • Tertiary, Pliocene 8 P.M.

    Tertiary, Pliocene 8 P.M.
During the pliocene many predators such as bears, dogs and cat families. Also herbivores such as sloths flourished. during this time the first modern horse developed.
  • Quaternary, Pleistocene 11:30 P.M.

    Quaternary, Pleistocene 11:30 P.M.
The Pliestocene Period began 1.8 million years ago. during this time ice sheets in eurasia and North America advanced and retreated several times. Animals such as woolly mammoths and woolly rhinocerouses lived fine because of there warm fur.
  • Quaternary, Holocene 11:59 P.M

    Quaternary, Holocene 11:59 P.M
The Holocene epoch which includes the present began about 11,500 years ago as the last glacial perid ended. During this time ice sheets melted which made the sea level rise 140meters. Also the North American Great Lakes were formed when water retreated.
