"Contraception is the use of various devices, drugs, agents, sexual practices, or surgical procedures to prevent conception or impregnation (pregnancy). Contraception helps women/ men plan if and when they want to have a baby" (Page 7).

    There is only one way to completely make sure you do not get pregnant. "Used continuously, abstinence is 100 percent effective in preventing pregnancy. It also prevents STDs" (Page 7). It can be very tempting to have sex, but there are many reasons why you shouldn't.

    Staying Abstinent
    Many questions can be asked to yourself when making the decision to stay abstinent. "Am I aware of situations that could make staying abstinent difficult for me? Can I avoid them? Alcohol and other drugs can affect my judgment and decision-making ability. How do I feel about not using them? Are there people in my life I can talk to about my decision to be abstinent?" (Page 8). It is very important to apply these questions in your own lives when it comes to abstinence.

    There is no best method to contraception. Each way has its pros and cons. "To get started, learn about birth control methods you or your partner can use to prevent preg- nancy. You can also talk with your doctor about the choices" (Page 9). Condoms are the only way of reducing the risk of the spread of STDs. It is very important to use condoms when having sex so we as a society can stop the spread of these harmful diseases.
