    Magna Carta

    As a result to King John's actions toward his people, 40 angry Barons came up with Magna Carta and forced him to sign it. Only to evade war King John signed it grudgingly. War did break out though due to Pope Innocent III who nullified it. The Magna Carta is still used to day and protects the rights of the British citicens as free peoples.
  • Jamestown settled

    Jamestown settlement was situated on a sort of island. This was due to they could protect themselves from other European settlers. The Virginia Company had sponsered the Exbidition and helped supply them.
  • Intolerable Acts

    King George created the Acts as a way to punish the Americans after the Boston Tea Party. It was also his way of trying to force Americans to follow his rule.
  • Mayflower Compact written

    Signed on board the Mayflower and was written to respond to mutinous remarks about some of the settlers wanting to settle in New England insteas of Northern Virginia, Being there no governtment they felt they didn't have to worry about legality to remain within the colony.
  • Petition of Right

    This document lead to a few of the ideas behind the American Revolution. It was origionally apart of a(n) English legal reform movement that led to Civil War and the deposing of Charles I in 1649.
  • English Bill of Rights

    This Bill put more restrictions on soverign King. it gave citizens more rights espeacially in religion and political choosing.
  • Albany Plan of Union

    Representatives from the Six Iroquise Nations and most of the Colonies met in Albany New York where they adopted a plan of union written by Benjamin Franklin. Under the plan the colonial legislator elected delegates to the American continental assembly that was presided by a royal governor. the King and his men did not worry though for they knew America was not ready for such a Plan.
  • Stamp Act

    Passed by Parlament it taxed Americans on all there paper goods. The money gathered went to protecting the Colonies along the Appalachian Montains. The colonists got upset though because they felt they had no say in the matter and the fact that instead of Commerce taxes it was money being raised in the colonies. They also belived if they didn't act now the taxes would keep going up and up.
  • Boston Massacre

    Not actually a massacre 5 were killed and 8 were wounded after taunting soldiers got alittle out of hand. Only called a massacre though because it would cause other Americans to want to revolt against the British.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Patriots got fedup with the taxes and in retaliation dressed as Indians knoking tea off the British supply ships. Around 342 cases of tea were lost that day making the East India Trade Company along with England very angry.
  • American Revolution begins

    Tensions built up and the British finaly went in to take Samuel Adams and John Hancock in Lexington. Little did they know word got back to the rebels from Pual Reveer and William Dawes. When the British troops arrived they were met by hundreds of Patriots surrounding them. Though the British destroyed there supplies the Americans won the first battle of the Revolution. They continued marking off the British as they were ordered to return to Boston and not engage.
  • Second Continental Congress

    The follow up after the first congress after failiing to convience the King to halt the Intolerable Act. In this one though they discussed defence of the colonies and urged training militia in all the colonise.
  • Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration was drafted by Thomas Jefferson to put words to there greivences against the king of England. It showed the world that we were officially breaking off from the British
  • First Continental Congress

    Delegates from 12 of the colonies of America came to Philadelphia and the begining of the Revolution in response to the Intoerable Acts. they reviewed there options and wheighed the gains and losses of boycotting and petioning the king.
  • Articals of Confederation

    Articals of Confederation
    Though created and finished in the span of 1776 and 1777 it wasn't ratified until 1781. It helped jumpstart the embers of the Revolution by giving support to ther feelings.
  • Shay's Rebellion

    Farmers in West Massachusets lead by Daniel Shay forced the State Supreme Court of Springfield to adjorn and the county courts make a decission about debt. They started because after the Revolution America hit a depression that was hard on the farmers. THey were imprisioned for debt and forclosed faster than ever by lawyers.
  • Constitution Convection

    Held to modify the Articals of Confederation in Philadelphia. They were Flawed and didn't allow congress to control the incoming and out goings of trade causeing massive financial troubles.
  • Philadelphia Convention

    To help out the economy and bring the new found country back in order delegates arrived in there favorite meeting place Philadelphia. The first item on there list was electing George Washington President of the convention and creating rules for the proceedings. THey created the New Jersy Plan, Connetitcut Compromise, and the Virginia PLan all in alittle over three months time. THey wraped things up in September and got one vote per delegate on all the following compromises and plans they made
  • Connecticut Compromise

    States agreed on that defind legislative structure and the representation of each state under the constitution. The canadates would be elected and the number allowed membership would be by the population of the state.
