    This was the decade the installation of computers began. Hospital's mainly used financial applications, along with mainframe computers on a server.

    1967 was the year that a programming language system, called MUMPS, came out that help create medical databases.

    Information Systems were being used in different departments, such as labs, radiology and HIM departments. Computers back then were mostly dumb terminals.

    This was the decade that reimbursements started to explode and expand all across the country. 1983 was the year DRG's developed. This was also when Health Level 7 (HL7) was created.

    1991 was the year that the publication of the "Computer-based Patient Record: An Essential Technology for Health Care" came out. This document came up with the concept of implementing electronic health records.
