    -Sir Walter Raleigh explores the OBX area and discovers a lost colony, Roanoke Island *English now have the means to explore so they start to discover more
  • Jamestown was established

    -The people in chesapeake were motivated by wealth
    -Wanted wood *These people that settetle in Jamestown get a sense of a new culture when they meet the Indians there which create problems
  • Mayflower compact

    -When puritan get on boats to go to Plymouth
    -A compromise between these people saying that God sent them on this mission so lets take advantage of it
    *These missionaries are going on boats to spread the word of God because they believe that God sent them on this mission
  • John Winthrop's "City Upon A Hill" speech

    -A speech given by a Puritan *He thought if we stay together as one and follow Gods teachings and live up to Gods word withought screwing it up we will be fine and looked up to by the upcoming generations

    -French brought troops to yorktown and tried to over power the British

    *British, French, and Americans meet in Paris and sign the Treaty of Paris

    *This was unconstitutional; this opens up expansion in the new territory

    -British started buyin cotton from the Indies which shows how reliable we are on cotton *We are reliant on Britain;Cotton is so important; Fear of National Bank

    -Jackson doesnt trust the Bank
    *People hate Jackson so much that they start a political party to go against him
  • Indian Removal Act of 1830

    -Jackson thinks that Indians are Barbarians and does not think they should be around
    -Cherokee Indians fight back and say this is not fair
    *The judge favors the Indians but the Indians dont get justice in the end
  • Nullification Controversy

    -South Carolina wants to try and nullify the tariffs because they dont have the same economy
    -John Calhoun then goes back to SC when Jackson fires him and says that tariffs are unconstitutional
    *Create the Force Bill and both sides end up winning because they have to compromise

    -Jackson does not trust the bank, he thinks it is becoming a monopoly
