    Roanoke
    The Roanoke Island Colony was founded by Sir Walter Raleigh as the first English settlement in the New World. They suffered from dwindling food supplies and Indian attacks. Raleigh sent John White to return to England to gather more supplies but his return was delayed nu the war with Spain. By the time he returned in 1590 everyone was gone.

    The Mayflower Compact was the first agreement for self-government to be created and enforced in America. Pilgrims who sailed from Plymouth, England were bound to the New World. 41 of the male adults who were on the ship were persuaded by the pilgrim leaders to sign an agreement which would set up a government in the Plymouth Colony called the Mayflower Compact.

    Sir William Berkeley became unpopular with small farmers and frontiers men. He restricted rights to vote, raised taxes, and lacked protecting the Native Americans from being attacked. His distant relative Nathaniel Bacon emigrated from England and started a small plantation on the James River. He rose in popularity and was elected to The House of Burgesses. He tried to take Berkeley's seat but was arrested by the governors agents.
