    After WW2 Korea was free from the Japanese. North Korea was occupied by the Soviet Union and South Korea was occupied by the USA. The country was divided in half. Capitalists were the south and communist were north. The two countries were enemies and wouldn’t accept the border between to be permanent. The North Korea’s attacked south, North Korea defeated the south and took over. The United Nations then helped South Korea and Pushed the north back to the border where peace agreements were made.

    The Vietnam war was a long conflict between communist North and South Vietnam with some help from the United States. It took place from November 1, 1955-April 30, 1975. It started as a way to contain the spread of communism because America thought communism was going to expand over south east Asia.
  • Revolt in Hungary

    The revolt in Hungary was a revolution against the Hungarian peoples republic and its Soviet imposed policies. It spread quickly and the government collapsed. In October, 1956 it irrupted into fighting where at first the rebels were successful. Fighting stopped on the 28th when the rebels had thought Soviet troops backed down. But on November 1st The Soviets invaded again.

    Sputnik was the first artificial satellite to be launched into space. It was launched by the Soviet union at 10:29 PM from Tyuratem Launch base in Kazakh Republic on October 4, 1957. It traveled around earth every hour and 36 minutes. 1958 it deteriorated as expected.

  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a conflict between The U.S.A and The Soviet Union. The Soviet Union installed nuclear missiles on Cuban land because Khrushchev wanted to increase his nations nuclear strike capability. The U.S. found out about it by a U-2 spy plane that took a picture of one of the missiles being assembled in Cuba. President Kennedy made this an urgent matter because the missiles were placed only 90 miles away from the United States. It lasted 13 days in October of 1962.

A youth organization called the Red Guards start preaching the teaching of Mao. The Red Guards go throughout the country destroying the old culture and spreading the teaching of the new culture

    The Apollo program was a NASA program that sprung American astronauts to take 11 space flights and also land on the moon. The first space flight happened in 1968. The first moon landing was in 1966 where astronauts studied the lunar surface and collected moon rocks to bring back to earth.

    The Revolt in Czechoslovakia happened because 200,000 Warsaw Pact troops invaded on August 20, 1968. The Soviets, East Germans, and etc. invaded Czechoslovakia to take down the Prague Spring which was a liberalization in the communist country. The Czech people protested this invasion by taking to the streets and removing street signs to confuse the people invading.
