  • Baby Boom

    Baby Boom
    In the late 1940s-1950's the event, Baby Boom, happened. Baby Boom is when the Birthrate increased tremendously. In 1930 the population was 9 million because of The Great Depression and WWII, but in the 1950's the population grew by 20 million. The babies being born made up for the lost time during the Great Depression and WWII. Families were given better healthcare during this time as well because of improved technology. Baby Boom impacted American society because the population grew immensely.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    The Korean War was between North and South Korea. On June of 1950 North Korea attacked South Korea. However, commander, MacArthur, caught them by surprise and pushed North Korea behind the 38th parallel, or border. MacArthur then wanted to attack China. This resulted in MacArthur getting fired and retreating back below the 38th parallel. The Korean War impacted American society because in July 1953 a demilitarized zone was set up along the border to prevent troops from passing the 38th parallel.
  • Brown VS Board

    Brown VS Board
    In 1854 Oliver Brown of Topeka, Kansas asked the local school board to allow his daughter, Linda, to attend an all white school. He asked along with 13 other plaintiffs. The all white school was closer to her house and would make transportation easy. When the school refused, the NAACP filed a law suit. Thur good Marshall was the main lawyer in the law suit. This act violated the 14th amendment and overturned Plessy V.S Ferguson. This impacted American society because it desegregated all schools.
  • Berlin Wall

    Berlin Wall
    The Berlin Wall was built to separate East and West Berlin. When East Berlin found out about the construction of the wall 3 million of them fled to West Berlin. This embarrassed the Soviet Union and caused them to began building a wall. On August 1961, East German soldiers began building a concrete and barbed wire wall. The wall was 69 1/2 miles long. East Berliners who tried to escape to the West were shot by border guards. This impacted American politics because others were avoiding communism.
  • Medicare/ Medicaid

    Medicare/ Medicaid
    Medicare was started by our President Lyndon Johnson in 1966. This was created so that the U.S government could help pay hospital bills of citizens over the age of 65. This Impacted American Society because older citizens paid 3x as much for health insurance as younger people. Medicaid was set up by Social Security Administration in 1965. This helps low income people pay medical bills and Also helps the disabled. This Impacted American society because not every state has the same qualifications.
  • MLK Assassination

    MLK Assassination
    On April 4th 1968 Martin Luther King Jr visited Memphis, TN to support black sanitation workers on strike. He stayed at the Lorrain Motel in room #306. When he stepped out of his room a man staying in the hotel across the street shot him. The man's name was James Earl Bay and he shot MLK with a Remington Game Master Rifle. King was hit in the right side of his jaw which resulted in him severing his spine. He died at 7:05 am. This impacted American society because the civil rights movement ended.
  • Robert F. Kennedy Assassination

    Robert F. Kennedy Assassination
    On June 4, 1968 Robert F. Kennedy was at the ambassador hotel in Los Angeles, California. To Avoid the crowds he decided to cut through the hotel kitchen. Suddenly a man named Sirhan Sirhan shot him with 3 bullets. Sirhan shot Robert because he supported Israel's military policies. Robert died two days later and was buried next to his older brother, JFK, in Washington DC. The assassination of Robert impacted American politics because it led to secret service protection to any future presidents.
  • Nixon/Watergate

    Nixon/Watergate
    On June 17, 1972 there was a burglary including 5 men. The burglary took place in Washington DC at the democratic headquarters. The president, Richard Nixon, promised that he wasn't involved, but he was a republican. A second commanding FBI agent found secret tapes in Nixon's office. The agents name was William Mark Felt and he uncovered the truth. On July 1974 Nixon was impeached. This impacted American politics because in July 1974 Nixon was the first president to ever resign from office ever.
  • Ronald Reagan

    Ronald Reagan
    Ronald Reagan was president between 1980-1988. He was in the Republican party. In his early years he was the governor of California and a movie star from 1937-1964. Ronald Reagan put a lot of money towards the military. $100 million was put towards the military and he also cut taxes. Along with cutting taxes he cut education. One big event he accomplished was the reduction of nuclear weapons. He reduced 12,000 weapons. This impacted American economy because he started Reaganomics, or cut taxes.
  • George H.W. Bush

    George H.W. Bush
    George H.W. Bush was president between 1988-1992. He was in the Republican party. George H.W. Bush was the father of a future president, George W. Bush. H.W. Bush began as Ronald Reagan's vice pres. and his family was very political. George H.W. Bush was president during the Persian Gulf War in 1990. Other things that happened during his presidency include, the collapse of the Berlin wall and the Americans with disabilities act. This impacted American society because it limited discrimination.
  • Iraq/ Afghanistan Wars

    Iraq/ Afghanistan Wars
    To begin Afghanistan entered war on Oct. 2001 and Iraq entered over a year later on March 2003. The war started for 4 important reasons. First, it prevented Iraq from employing weapons of mass production, to protect oil reserves, to keep the world safe from terrorists, and it was a response to the September 11, 2001 attack. The war resulted in the capture and death of two big terrorists, Suddam Hessein and Osama Bin Laden. This impacted American society because there have been 6,882 casualties.
  • Hurricane Katrina

    Hurricane Katrina
    Hurricane Katrina hit most of New Orleans on August 29, 2005. This Hurricane started as a category or was at 175+ MPH winds when it was in the water, but it became a category 3 when it hit land. The winds were at 175 MPH causing the New Orleans Levee to break. Massive floods began with 11 foot waves covering houses and buildings. This was by far the costliest hurricane in the US being at approximately $81 billion.This impacted American society because there were 1,836 fatalities and 705 missing.
