    -USSR attempts to cut west berlin from the allies.
    -First example of the US using the Truman Dctrine to help fight communism.

    -A war between North and South Korea, the United States of America fought for the South, and China for the North, which was a part of the Soviet Union.
    -The point in the Cold War where the war turned "hot"
  • Vietnam War

    -The longest running war in American history, and the most unpopular. The war resulted in 60,000 American deaths and 2 million Vietnamese deaths.
    -This was the first instance in American history where we did'nt come out of the war as victors.
  • Sputnik

    -The first satellite to ever enter space, which so happened to belong to the Soviet Union.
    -Was the reason the space race began.

    • Failed invasion of Cuba by the CIA-sponsored paramilitary group Brigade 2506. -Failure led to bad decisions from president Kennedy which affected relations in the future with the Soviet Union and Cuba.

    -Built overnight, the Berlin Wall's main goal was to seperate the democratic West and the communist East.
    -Symbolised the inner conflict of Germany and the division between democratic or communist.

    -The Cuban Missle Crisis was a clash between the US and the Soviet Union about Soviet missles being made in Cuba.
    -The closest we ever came to nuclear war with the Soviet Union.
  • Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan.

    Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan.
    -The Soviet Afghanistan War was fought between Afghanistan rebels called the Mujahideen and the Soviet supported Afghanistan government. The United States supported the Afghanistan rebels in order to try and overthrow the communist government and to prevent the spread of communism.
    -It pitted the U.S. against the U.S.S.R. in terms of supplies and not combat.
  • Gorbachev's reforms

    Gorbachev's reforms
    -The first being Perestroika, the "restructuring concept", focused more on the overhalling of the communist party economically. The second being Glasnost, which focused more on strict social controls of the government.
    - With Gorbachev being much younger than leaders in the past, he brought with him new and frsh ideas to the Soviet Union.
