    The "Big Three" allied leaders, U.S. president Franklin Roosevelt, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and Soviet leader Josef Stalin meet to make arrangements for the postwar world order. They disagree on many things but come to the conclusion divide Germany into separate occupied zones.

    President Harry S. Truman gives a speech were he promised American assistance to any nation in the world threatened by communism. This established the worldwide idea of communism as a important American national security interest.
  • Berlin Blockade

    Berlin Blockade
    Russia’s response to the union between the French, USA and UK was to cut all road and rail links to that sector of Berlin. This meant that those living in Western Berlin had no access to food supplies and faced starvation.

    The United States and British air force flew in supplies to Western Germany, when USSR stopped their flow of supplies. Food and other necessities were dropped in to the starving civilians.

    Berlin wall is constructed to divide Eastern communist Germany and Western democratic Germany. It divided families and friends for many years and would not let anyone on both sides pass through.

    The Cuban Missile Crises was a 13-day political and military standoff over the installation of nuclear-armed Soviet missiles on Cuba and the Soviet Union concerning American ballistic missile deployment in Italy and Turkey. Destruction was avoided when the U.S. agreed to Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev’s offered to remove the Cuban missiles in exchange for the U.S. promising not to invade Cuba.

    The Berlin Wall was a symbol of the repressive communist government. When the opening of the wall was announced, many people headed towards the wall and people could freely move between Eastern and Western Germany. Much of the wall was torn down by people as they celebrated the end of a divided Germany.

    The soviet Union dissolved as a result of the declaration number 142-Н of the Soviet of the Republics of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union. The declaration acknowledged the independence of the former Soviet republics and created the Commonwealth of Independent States.
