    The Marshall Plan
    In the 1950s, European countries still required the aid of The U.S. to help them get back on their feet. Farms started to produce more food than they did before WWII.
  • The Economic Boom

    The Economic Boom
    The Economic Boom happened in the 1950s. This was a time in America where wages were getting better and more jobs were available. Many Americans were buying new homes and cars, after being caught up in the excitement of the improved economy.
  • Revolts

    Revolts
    Nations were beginning to hope that The Soviet Union would give up more of their power. The Soviet leaders made it very clear that the changes in their power were slight, and no major changes to their government was going to be made. Protesters in many countries, such as Germany started to protest, but The Soviets quickly used force to shut them down.
  • Brown V. Board of Education

    Brown V. Board of Education
    This ruling in America was what ended the segregation of public schools. This happened after desegregation happened in the military.
  • Solidarity

    Solidarity
    Lech Walesa led over hundreds of thousands of people in a protest throughout Poland. The protest was trying to end communism in their country, and communists tried to stop it, but could not control the protesters.
  • One Germany

    One Germany
    Hungary opened the border with Austria and many East Germans traveled to Hungary to cross into the west. When the border was let down, many people started tearing it apart in all of the excitement. Germany than later was once again a single nation.
  • Lithuania

    Lithuania
    The republic of Lithuania was once independent before WWII. They openly protested their wants of becoming their own nation again. The Soviets openly fired during the protest and killed 14 unarmed citizens.
  • The End of the Soviets

    The End of the Soviets
    By the end of 1991, 12 Soviet Republics formed the Common Wealth of Independent States. Many republics continued to claim their independence, and the Soviet Union no longer existed.
  • The Taliban

    The Taliban
    The Taliban claimed themselves to be the government in Afghanistan. In the fall of 2001, U.S. military invaded the nation and chased them out of Afghanistan.
  • 9/11

    9/11
    Al Qaeda hijacked four U.S. planes on 9/11/01, led by Osama bin Laden. They planes were purposefully crashed into the World Trade center and killed many people.
