    In the Cold War there was no direct fighting. It also lacked violence.

    It is a conflict between two nations when neither decide to inflict direct contact.
  • Postwar occupation and division of Germany

    Postwar occupation and division of Germany
    With the results of the Potsdam Conference Germany was divided. After World War II Germany, along with its capital, was split into four zones between Britain, France, US, and the Soviet Union. The country was agreed to have similar economic rule to keep the country together. The divided sections were supposed to just be military powers.
  • Greek Civil War

    Greek Civil War
    Greek communists attempted to take over Greece. Winston Churchill decided to make a deal with Stalin, trading Romania for Greece. With power of Greece he was able to stop the growth of communism and decrease its power drastically.
  • Enactment of Marshall Plan

    Enactment of Marshall Plan
    President Truman signed the Economic Recovery Act. It proposed for the United States to provide economic assistance to restore postwar Europe. Although this plan helped other countries, it put a massive dent of billions of dollars in the United States' bank account.
  • Berlin Blockade and Airlift

    Berlin Blockade and Airlift
    Soviet Union's attempt to push the Western Allied Powers out of their German territories in West Berlin. In response to this the Allied Powers decided to fight back by joining a single economic unit in their jurisdictions. To prove a point, the Soviets then blockaded all communication (railways, roads, and water) between Berlin and the west.
  • Chinese Communist Revolution

    Chinese Communist Revolution
    The second Chinese Civil War was brought up because China fell to communism. Mao Zedong hoped siding with the Soviet Union and communism would bring a positive reputation throughout China again. He believed communism was the only weapon to keep democracy out of power.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    North Korea invaded South Korea, so the United Nations and the United States aided China. The Soviet Union aided North Korea. After many battles for land, the borders took a stalemate at the 38th Parallel.
  • Cuban Revolution

    Cuban Revolution
    A revolt led by Fidel Castro to demote Cuban president Batista. Although Castro's militia was small, they were still able to defeat Batista's government in one battle. This resulted in the Communist Party taking over Cuba.
  • Formation of the Eastern Bloc

    Formation of the Eastern Bloc
    A term that includes communist countries generally joining the Warsaw Pact. These countries were Stalin supporters, and sided to protect communism. These eastern countries feared the United States support of anticommunism would sweep away Communism as a whole.
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    A long battle over Communism resulting in thousands of fatalities, the majority being US soldiers. This war was fought in Vietnamese territories through thick jungle brush which wasn't anything US soldiers had prepared for. The US eventually fled the war after revolts and rallies against the war had started back home.
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    Bay of Pigs Invasion
    Cuban refugees attempt to take over Cuba. They kick Fidel Castro out of power along with Communism. With this quarl they were able to take back their land and government.
  • Building of the Berlin Wall

    Building of the Berlin Wall
    To avoid the loophole in Berlin, East German authorities built a wall that blockaded all of West Berlin. With the Berlin wall no one could leave communism. The East German government was serious about this wall considering they went through and added several deadly layers to this lethal escape of communism.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    The Soviet Union placed missiles in Cuba pointing at the Unites States. In reaction, the United States declared the missiles be removed and this since they were considered a threat. The United States agreed to remove outdated missiles pointed at the Soviet Union as long as the Soviet Union removed their missiles.

    Soviet War in Afghanistan
    The Soviets intervened to support Communism in Afghanistan. The Soviet Union opposed anticommunism Muslims and saw it as helping them find a better government. After nine long years of fighting, Afghanistan was left in crumbles from losing their population from starvation, bombings, and leaving. All of the irrigation systems and families were destroyed.
  • Tiananmen Square Massacre

    Tiananmen Square Massacre
    Chinese troops kill pro-democracy protesters in Tiananmen Square. They claimed to have warned the protesters and then proceeded with the massacre of millions of students. The troops were given the mission of clearing the square, and that is exactly what was done without any mercy.
  • Fall of the Berlin Wall

    Crowds of Germans ended the thirty year reign of the Berlin Wall. They came in waves to demolish it, physically pushing it out of the way. This resulted in the fall of the Berlin wall, along with the East German Government.
  • Fall of the Soviet Union

    Fall of the Soviet Union
    Gorbachev resigned as president of the Soviet Union. This left Yeltsin in office, so he converted the country to a newly independent Russian state. Many countries who previously followed the Soviet Union decided to branch off into independent governments. This left the Soviet Union alone without their power and fell to crumbles.
