Persecuation of Catholic Churches
Around 1945 churches that existed after the war faced persecution from the Russian government. The Russian government which was primarily communist thought that Catholicism threatened the idea of communism. This caused the Russian government to persecute Catholic and Christian churches and believers. Over the span of 19 years the Russian government closed many churches and killed many followers. Soviet Censorship
After the Russian Revolution censorship became vey prominent towards Literature, Film, and Radio. The Russian government had complete control over what the Russian people could access, keeping away the Western Beliefs from the Russian. Censorship began to decrease after the death of Stalin in 1953 allowing Russian people to be more aware and see the differences in other societies. The Gaspire theme would be Artistic because the Russian Government censored material from the Russian people. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban Missile Crisis happen because the USSR sent Nucleur Missiles towards Cuba which was next to the United States. The United States responded by applying a blockade around Cuba. Eventually the USSR withdrew the missiles from Cuba on October 28th 1962. The GASPIRE theme that would apply would be Geographic because of the location that Cuba was at being so close to the United States. -
The Space Race
Through the 1960's Russian and The United States competed to see who could have the first man on the moon. Russia was able to send the first into space but failed to actually send the first man on the moon. N.A.S.A the United States Space Program successfully sent 3 astronauts to space and had two of them walk on the moon. The Gaspire theme that would apply for this event would be Intellectual, because of the Technological advancement which impacted society tremendously.
