    The Truman Doctrine
    The Truman Doctrine is aid provided to Turkey and Grace from The United States imposed by President Truman. The United States provided $400 million in aid towards those two countries. The Truman Doctrine was significant to the Cold War because it was seen as a declaration to the Cold War for some. This was the United States first attempt during the Cold War to contain communism by building those two countries stronger so they would be able to fight of communism if needed to.
  • The Korean War

    The Korean War
    The Korean War started when about 75,000 soldiers crossed the 38th parallel, which separated North and South Korea. By July, there were American troops fighting with South Korea against the North. After the North took over most of the South, the South fought back and crossed the 30th parallel into North Korea. North Korea fought back and went into South Korea once more, At the end of the war, the North Korea got pushed back into the North and it ended as a stalemate.

    This event was important to the Cold War because it was an attempt to keep communism from spreading to South Korea. It was an attempt for the United States to contain communism.

    The Warsaw Pact was a pact created by 11 contries as a counteraction against NATO and the Soviet Union as the leader. The signing of the pact became a symbol of the dominance in Eastern Europe by the Soviets. This was significant in the Cold War because the Soviets and Communism became more of a threat now. The United States had to step up it's game and make sure to contain communism and stop it from spreading anymore.

    The Soviet Union launched a satellite into space and was orbiting Earth. The launch of Sputkik created many reactions from Americans as they feared that the Soviet Union was too far ahead in the arms race against the United States. It also caused alarm because they feared that they were getting far too behind technology whise.

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a 13 day standoff between the United States and the Soviet Union about the missiles placed in Cuba by the Soviets. On October 22 1962, president John F Kennedy revealed that he was going to set a blockade in Cuba to avoid anymore missile from entering. That caused Khrushchev to back down on October 28 and agreed to remove the missiles from Cuba if the US didn't invade it. US had to also secretly remove missiles from Turkey.

    The Cuban Missile Crisis played an important role in the Cold war because it was another proxy war between the Soviet Union and the United States. The crisis just created more tension between the Soviets and the United States.

    The six day war was a conflict between Israel and Egypt, Jordan, and Syria over Israel, which was located in a land that was promised as the homeland for the Palestinians. The six day war resulted in Israel taking the victory as they quickly took down their enermy. This was significant to the Cold War because the United States sided and aided Israel and the Soviet Union allied with the Arab Nations.

  • US man on the Moon

    US man on the Moon
    After the Soviet Union was ahead in the space race after launching Sputnik and the first man into space, the United States was able to catch up by sending the first man into the moon on Apollo 11. This was significant to the Cold War because it heated up more the proxy war between the Soviet Union and the United States.
