  • Brown vs Board of education

    Brown vs Board of education
    In 1896 Plessy v. Fergasan "separate, but equal facilities." In 1954 Oliver Brown of Topeka, Kansas asked the local school board to let his daughter be in a all white school. The school was closer to their house than the segregated school where she was assigned, was a bus ride away. Supreme court with Thurgood Marshall, the main lawyer. The segregated schools couldn't provide equal education, violated the 14th amendment. Brown won with a anonymous decision. Military was even sent to interrogate.
  • Elvis

    Elvis
    Elvis Presley was born Jan 8, 1935 in Mississippi. When he was 8 he won his first talent show. When he was older he became more popular through t.v on the Ed Sullivan show. He was only shown from the waist up because his hip movements were too inappropriate. In 1952 he was drafted for the U.S army. in the 70s he revived his singing career. August 16, 1977 he died in Memphis from a heart failure caused by prescription drug overdose. The day after he died the most flowers sold in 1 day.
  • Berlin wall

    3 million east berliners fled to west Berlin. This embarrassed the soviet union. Suddenly in August 1961, German solders began building a wall. This wall was built of concrete and barbed wire all across berlin, 69 1/2 miles long. East Berliners who tried to escape were shot. This was the symbol of the cold war. The wall eventually fell in 1989.
  • JFK Assassination

    JFK Assassination
    In Dallas, Texas 1963, the president was thrown a parade. JFK had an open car while he was waving to people at the parade. Lee Harvey Oswald was the assassin and was working, Texas schoolhouse depository, on his lunch break he assassinated JFK. JFK was shot in the head and was rushed to the hospital. He died at 2:00 pm at the parkland hospital in Dallas. The country was devastated, so much that Jack ruby shot and killed Oswald. This impacted many because their president was shot.
  • Man on the Moon

    Man on the Moon
    July 20, 1969 at 4:17 pm astronauts on Apollo 11 piloted onto the moons surface. People all over the world were watching the astronauts on television. Neil Armstrong was the first person to walk on the moon at 10:56 pm. He is also know or saying "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." The astronauts went to the moon to plant the American flag and get samples from the moon to study on earth. They spent 21 hours on the moon, and the U.S was the first to make it to the moon.
  • Kent State Massacre

    Kent State Massacre
    The Ohio college with a population of 21,000 student, some of those students were protesting about Nixon sends troops over to Cambodia. When the students were protesting the police started bayonetting and clubbing protesters. After the national guard showed up, the crowd began chants and rock throwing. 28 guardsmen fired 61 bullets at the protesters, 4 were killed and 9 were wounded. 25 protesters were found guilty and national guard wasn't blamed. This impacted many because of the unfairness.

    In Washington D.C five men broke into the democratic headquarters. They broke in to steal/gain more information to make Nixon win the next election. They would have gotten away with it if they hadn't left the door open when they left, door was slightly open. Nixon said that he wasn't involved with this break-in. A man from the FBI found recordings of Nixon having knowledge of the break-in. The tapes were found in Nixon's office. The man reported these tapes and got the nickname "deep-throat."

    Was a democratic president from 1976-80. Carter cut taxes and spent $100 billion dollars on defense. Carter also got the social security act passed and salt II. Some fun facts are that Carter was a peanut farmer, this made him billions. Also he went to a navel academy when he was younger. Jimmy Carter impacted the United States because he was the 39th president.
  • George W. Bush

    George W. Bush
    Republican president from 2000-08. He was the governor of Texas before he became president. He was the president when the twin towers and the pentagon was hit by terrorists, when Saddam Hussein was executed, and tax relief. He enforced the no child left behind act and did things with war on terror.
  • War in Iraq and Afghanistan

    War in Iraq and Afghanistan
    The wars started in October 2001 for Afghanistan and March 2003 for Iraq. There was a possibility of Iraq employing weapons of mass destruction. This was important because it was in response to 9/11/01 to make the world safe from terrorists. The impact was that the U.N found no evidence of weapons of mass destruction, lead to an occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan American troops for over a decade. The U.S helped Iraqis elect their own government, and had the death of Hussein and Bin Laden.

    Terrorists were planning an attack for a long time, on September 11, 2001 the attack was planned because the terrorists knew that 911 would be called. The attack was the 1 attack on the U.S after Pearl harbor. The terrorists took over planes, and crashed into the pentagon, twin towers, and a field in Pennsylvania. September 11, 2001 impacted society because many people died and weren't able to be saved.

    There was a peace keeping organization in New York in 1945 at the Yalta conference. They solve disputes between countries, improve education, provide vaccines, and help with disease and hunger. The six major bodies are general assembly 193 countries vote. Economic and social council, information gathering. The court of justice, peace police in the Netherlands. Trusteeship help developing. Secretary, in charge of U.N. Finally security council, five powerful countries make major decisions for U.N.
