The Korean War
The United Nations led by the United States helped South Korea hoping communism from North Korea won't spread to South Korea. The communist countries, China, and USSR gave military, and weapon support to North Korea. The Korean war is one of the reasons why Korea is still separated to this day. -

The cold war not only impacted the US and the USSR militarily, but also both countries started to compete advancement in science and education. GASPIRE theme: artistic & culture: with better education, people started to advance in art and culture. To this day, Russia and US are still advanced in technology. -
The Cuban Revolution
Cuban nationalist Fidel Castro overthrew the Cuban government and transformed the political system to communism by the support of USSR. GASPIRE theme: political: the Cuban government became communists. Cuba was installed with totalitarian communist regime. -
Bay of Pigs invasion
The United States unifying 1000+ Cuban exiles to overthrow the communist government in Cuba, it was a total failure because the United States did not have the air and navy support arrive on time. GASPIRE themes: social: the Cuban people are fighting to get the form of government they want by overthrowing. The constitution of Cuba was designed and written under the rule of communist. -
First Man on Space
The U.S and USSR not only supported rival countries during wars, but also competed technologically. Yuri Gagarin, the Soviet hero was the first man to be in space. GASPIRE theme: 1. intellectual: both countries improved their technology rapidly due to the space race 2. economic: both countries spend tremendous amounts of money to support the improvement in technology. The space race is the reason why we know so much about the space now. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
During the summer of 1962, the Soviet Union gave the new born country Cuba missiles. Shortly after that, the United States out of fear blockaded Cuba, and demanded removal of missiles with threat of nuclear war. October 28th, 1962 the missile was removed from Cuba. GASPIRE theme: psychological: people of the United States at the time were living in fear of missiles everyday. Today we still have people that used to live in the fear, and they know how serious it was. -
First Man on Moon
With the space race, the United State made the first man to walk on space with the famous quote "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind". GASPIRE theme: culture: people of the United States started to pay attention to space, and environment. The quote from Armstrong is impacting our society greatly. -
SALT Treaty
Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty was written to limit the amount of military power and nuclear weapon production of the USSR and US. GASPIRE theme: political: the treaty was to keep the peace between US and USSR. The treaty has impacted our society because both countries are not producing nuclear weapon massively. -
The Olympics
The USSR beat the US in basket ball in the Olympic in 1972 because they were using military members that was trained for basket ball all day. GASPIRE theme: psychological: people thought that the US was going to win the game. The people of United States will always remember the day the US lost the Olympic game with USSR.
