Berlin Airlift

The Warsaw Pact was formed with member states East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Albania, Bulgaria, and the Soviet Union. It was made to stop NATO from taking over there land. It was also to help keep communism around. -

Pilot Powers was flying spy plane over the Soviet Union when he was shot down. They captured him and forced President Eisenhower to admit that they had been flying these types of planes over the Soviet Union for years. The Cuban Missile Crisis was a disaster that almost ended the world in Nuclear war. The Soviets had nuclear missiles on Cuba and we had nukes aimed at Turkey. We were ready to declare war if they struck. This crisis was narrowly avoided when the Soviets agreed to stand down if we dont attack Cuba, and we agreed to stand down our nukes that were aimed at Turkey. -

This was a treaty that banned nuclear warfare indefinitely. It has been signed by over 170 countries making it the most signed treaty of all time. And France, Russia, China, Great Britain, and the U.S. are know as nuclear states. -

A group of Iranian students and militants stormed the American embassy. They took 53 Americans hostage to show their support for the Iranian Revolution. This would last for 444 days. -

The war was beginning to end and there was no need to keep the wall. They were going to let the communications seep through into the Soviet Union. Then they said that they didn't need the wall anymore and destroyed it. -

START or formally known as Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty was signed. It was signed by the U.S. and the Soviet Union. It was used to prevent nuclear war and limit the weapons of mass destruction.
