  • NAACP

    It stands for National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. It was created to get rid of all racial descrimination and to secure the political, economical, social and, educational rights of all.

    It was addressing the bad stereotypes that different races have. There were also movements addressed like the Mexican American civil rights movement
  • Brown vs. Board of Education

    Brown vs. Board of Education
    Brown vs. Board of Education is a very big and well known case throughout the U.S. The case deals with schools and how white and blacks were segregated and went to different schools. The law was named unconstitutional.
  • Montgomery Bus Boycott

    Montgomery Bus Boycott
    The boycott began when African American Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat for a white woman. She was then put in jail which started the boycott. African Americans did not ride busses for 381 days which was the time of the court hearing.
  • SCLC

    The purpose was for civil and political rights. Its full name is Southern Christian Leadership Conference and they closely worked with their first president Martin Luther King Jr.

    Hippies liked things such as arts and theater. They also participated in listening to psyhedelic rock and folk music

    It was created to help the inequality in the workplace for women and men. Added into it was also that gender discrimination was not allowed.

    An African American rider was attacked because they tried to go into a white area. This spooked a few riders which caused them to go onto a trailways bus.

    She wrote the book The Feminine Mystique. She helped find the National Organization for Women and she was the president until 1970. It was a organization for women's rights
  • The Birmingham Campaign

    The Birmingham Campaign
    Many people marched against segregation and to get rid of it. Eventually they won and the blacks and white signs were taken away.

    On August 28th 1963 the March On Washington occurred. The march was for jobs and freedom. Eventually the first black mayor became the mayor in Atlanta Georgia.

    It started because of Americas involvement with Vietnam. Counterculture is when another culture is different from the normal cultures.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1964

    Civil Rights Act of 1964
    The act ended segregation. It also ended discrimination based on things such as race, color, and religion. It was started by President Kennedy and put into effect by President Johnson.

    Also known as the Watts Rebellion it took place in LA. An African American driver was arrested because they believed that he was under the influence.
  • Roe v. Wade

    Roe v. Wade
    It allowed women the privacy to make her own decisions regarding medical problems. 7 out of 10 people believed that it should remain that way.
