    2.New Mexico and Utah could decide on their own if there were to be a free state or slave state.

    4.Texas would give up claim on New mexico territory

    The Dred scott decision decided that slaves are seen as property so they are not aloud to sue in court because they are not citizens.
  • Harper's ferry raid

    Abolitionist John Brown led his five sons into a armory to try to free slaves by starting a riot and getting the slaves to help him but none of the slaves ever helped him and his sons so they eventually were over thrown and captured.

    Democratic party was split over the issue of slavery. The Republicans nominated Lincoln who won the election but didn't win a single southern state.

    South Carolina is outraged by the election so they leave the Union six other states follow them before Lincoln is even sworn into office.

    General P.G.T Beauregard is ordered to take for Sumter from the Union

    Battle of Bull Run confederates defeat the north and Stonewall Jackson solidifies himself as a great leader for the south.

    Lincoln issued this to free all enslaved people in the rebellious states but didn't actually free any of them until the end of the war.

    Lee greatest victory and greatest lost he did a surprise attack on the Union troops from their flank and they won the battle because of this but in the process of this he lost his most trusted general in Stonewall Jackson which proved costly for the CSA in the long run.

    At the battle of Gettysburg Lee was trying to invade north for supplies but was turned around by the Union force this was thought to be as the turning point of the war. Lincoln also gave one of his most famous speeches in his Gettysburg address.
  • Battle of Vicksburg

    Just days after the Norths Gettysburg victory General Grant started a bombardment on the south stronghold at Vicksburg which he eventually took over and split the south into two halves which started there downfall.

    Lee surrenders too Grant and his forces thus ending the war.

    John Wilkes booth shot Lincoln in the back of his head while he was watching the play which effected the way reconstruction would go without Lincoln there to steer the ship.

    The United states congress finally abolished slavery and made it the 13th amendment.

    15th mendment
    The house made the 15th amendment which gave all citizens the right to vote and no citizens could be denied the right to vote based on their skin color.
