  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise kept the balance of pro and anti-slavery states. By allowing a free state, Missouri was able to become a pro-slavery state. This created tension between the North and South because the North did not like that congress could aid in the expansion of slavery. This becomes an argument over power.
  • Compromise of 1850

    It is when five major bills were passed which got rid of a four year confrontation between slaves that were free. It all started when the president at the time died, and the Whig leader tried to design a compromise which was failed to be passed in the early 1850's
  • Fuguitve slave law

    it was a law that was passed so that all masters of slaves would receive their slaves back if they had either been captured from someone stealing them or being captured for fleeing slaves. the reason this law was passed was because it was the year that all the slaves were running and heading towards the north.
  • Kansas- Nebraska- Act

    it was an act passed by congress. it was an act that allowed people in territories in Kansas and Nebraska to decided wether they want slavery or not want slavery within their border line.
  • Dred Scott Supreme Court Decision

    it was a landmark in time when Dred Scott when to court to be names a free slave and to be named an american citizen. He went to the supreme court and they denied him and all Slaves and names them all not American Citizen and said that they were all still going to be names slaves.
  • Raid on Harper's ferry

    Activist John brown tired to start an armed slave revolt. He did this by taking over a United States arsenal at harper's ferry. John with his 21 men that was with him was defeated by the U.S Marines. Brown had asked Harriet Tubman to join him but Tubman was taking back by becoming sick.
  • Election of 1860

    November 1860 Abraham Lincoln defeated John Breckenridge and Stephen Douglas and the constitutional candidate John Bell and was named the president of the United States.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    The Emancipation Proclamation was an executive order issued by president Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863. The purpose for this executive order was to abolish slavery. It was also issues to change the federal states law due to the slaves being personal slaves. Only 10 states took this law change and only 10 states would have free slaves.
  • Battle of Antietam

    it was the first battle of the American Civil War for part of the Maryland Campaign to be fought in the Northern side but was mainly fought in South. It is known as the bloodiest single day battle in American history.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    The Battle of Gettysburg is the most important of the American Civil War. The confederate army of Northern Virginia had victory over the army of the Potomac at Chancellorsville. The army attacked the Federals on both sides of the field. Both meaning left and right.
  • Abraham Lincoln

    Abraham was one of the United States Presidents and was also known to be a lawyer. He led the United States through the Civil War, which was one the bloodiest wars. During his time in office before he was assassinated he abolished slavery, made the federal government stronger, and made the economy better.
