    Henry Clay wrote the Missouri Compromise when Maine came out as a free state and Missouri wanted to be a slave state. They could not decide so Congress had people vote by popular sovereignty if Missouri would be a slave state. Henry Clay wrote the compromise to help settle the debate, Missouri ended up being a slave state.
  • Wilmont Proviso

    Wilmont Proviso
    The Wilmont Proviso was made is 1848 and it involves David Willmont and many slaves. David said that slavery should be banned in the territory acquired in the Mexican American War. This was very controversial during this time in history and ended up being one of the main reasons that the Civil War broke out.

This event occurred in California, Washington D.C, and the rest of the U.S. The event occurred to try and stop slavery.
  • Fugitive Slave Act

    The fugitive slave act let slave catchers take any black person whether they were free or escaped. People of color that were free could be taken into or back into slavery. This act prevented the slaves from being considered citizens and helped supply slave to the south.
  • Uncle Toms Cabin

    Uncle Toms Cabin was published in 1852. This even involved Harriet Beecher Stowe. This was a book published about slavery and to actually show what happens in slavery. This even occurred in Cincinnati Ohio.This impacted history by having people think this caused the civil war.
  • Bleeding Kansas

    John Brown took a group of men to Kansas to help make sure that Kansas would be a free state. In the process of changing people's mind, he and his men ended up killing 50 people. He brought his men down to help prevent Kansas from being a slave state. A fight broke out killing 50 people in the process. It happened between the years of 1854 and 1861.
  • Dred Scott Case

    The Dred Scott Case was when Dred Scott moved to a free state with his slave owner, Dred Scott thought that because he moved to a free state this would make him free. When his owner denied him the right to be free he took matters to court. He sued for his rights to be a free man but was denied because the court stated the black people were not citizens. He lost his case after all.

    Tension between North and South Ridge greatest extent Democrats wanted slavery. Republican party was brand new and Abraham Lincoln was running for presidency. John Brown was an abolitionist against slavery he started off peaceful talking throughout the nation but then eventually became violent.Cross pass with Frederick Douglass but was too violent for most people he attacked a fairy then was charged with treason he was beheaded and he has excuse was that God told him to do it.
  • Lincoln Douglas Debate

    Stephan Douglas was a rising star of the Democratic Party. Lincoln was apart of the newly created Republican party. They went head-to-head on many debates and it was very controversial throughout the United States especially in Illinois. The debates were mostly over slavery.
  • Lincolns Election of 1850

    The last three decades have been about trying to free the slaves from their oppression and the Lincoln Douglas debates have decided the nation. Abe Lincoln was actually one of the very last choices for the presidency but due to the fact that he won the electoral college, he won easily 60 percent of Americans didn't even choose Lincoln. Due to this, the southerners seceded from the nation because they thought that they were not being represented. So they decided to secede from the nation.

    The southern secession was when 7 states left the Union. Because of Lincoln being elected and him wanting slavery to end, the south decided that they did not want t to be a part of a slave free country Since the south left the Union the Civil war was fought in order to keep the states together.
