Sickness has people being left behind
They left H.W. Reikel, Y.M. Osborn, Y.A. Lyon along with six to eight others at the Keokuk hospital because of sickness. -

They left the camp on November 24th and made it to St. Louis at about two in the morning on the 26th. -

They march off the boat and go through a little villiage in St. Louis Missouri where they are housed and fed well. -

They left Helena Arkansas on February 24th. They are on a steam boat traveling down the Yazoo pass and have about six to eight gun boats with them. -
Wishes to return home
He wants to fight in battle so he can go home and see his friends and family. He doesn't want to have to write any more letters to them and have to worry about them but he loves to get things and news from home. -

They went back to Helena Arkansas and have been shot at. It wasn't really a fight but two sargents were shot but not seriously wounded. -
Stays at a families house
He stays at a families house while they camp there after burning everyhting that can birn when they see resistance but these people let him in, as he and the mother and two daughters talk they tell him about how they sent there brother and son to join the rebel army. -
They have not yet heard news from Vicksburg
They haven't heard from Vicksburg but he did get appointed to sargent and he is happy that he no longer has to stand gaurd. -
He has had his picture taken
He had his pictue taken and has asked for a picture from his friends back home to see how much they have changed and if they have changed as much as he has. -
They now have 300 people
They gain people for the army and now have about 300 soldiers. -

The battle of Helena Arkansas has started and the rebel troops are trying to take things from his troops. -
took 960 prisoners
Durning the fight at Helena Arkansas the men with Newton Scott took 960 prisoners and found out that 2,000 of the rebel sides men were dead. -
leaving Helena Arkansas
They are leaving Helena Arkansas at three that day to go to little rock Arkansas then to Texas.
