    Texas left the Union because Abraham Lincoln was voted for President. This effected the South States to leave the US and make their own government. The South States wanted Stephan Douglas for the US President.

    Sam Houston refused to swear to the Confederacy when Texas seceded from the Union to not fight in a war. Later Houston was removed from governor.

    The Red River Campaign ended on May 22,1864. A long pust to put Union troops in to Texas. They fought in Louisiana (Red River). The union had about 30,000 and the Confederacy 6,000-15,000 troops.
