    Was an attempt to avoid a huge conflict between north and south. It proposed an effective fugitive slave law as long as California is a free state.

    Abraham Lincoln won the election even without winning any southern state votes. He was very against slavery but he didn't show it and just wanted the peace.

    The Confederate States of America are formed. All southern states break off and elect their own president, Jefferson Davis.

    Fort on a small island in the port of Charleston, SC. North guards the fort and the south bombarded the fort for hours until the north surrendered.

    The battle was near the Rappahannock River. The north split the army in two and the south defended it all. Both sides had high numbers lost.

    Lincoln issued this to free all the slaves living in the south. This freed some slaves but this only made the south madder.

    HUGE WIN FOR THE NORTH! This made huge hope that the north will win the war. Lee commands a 12,000 person charge across a field and get mowed down.

    Andrew Johnson was from the south but was Lincoln's VP in his second term. After Lincoln died, he became president and wasn't a good president for reconstruction. He vetoed many laws.

    This helped the newly freed slaves heavily. It game them supplies and new black schools in the south under Johnson's presidency. But this caused great debt to the nation.

    This is a huge amendment that states slavery is now abolished. This is issued under Johnson's presidency and upsets the south a lot

    A general that won the Civil War for the north. He was a great candidate for president and so he won. He became the 18th president.
