  • Advantages and Disadvantages, Military Strategies of Each Side

    The Union used a 3 part plan which was to block the Southern Ports, Union would use the river to divide the Confederacy, and finally they would capture the Confederate Capital. The Confederates plan was to survive so it was mainly defensive but would go on the offensive if seen fit.

    The gross condition of camps during the civil war was changed when the USSC taught soldiers how to not pollute the water and developed hospital trains to help transport the wounded.

    This was a battle fought between the Union and the Confederates at South Carolina. Lincoln sent supplies and it allowed the South to make the first move. Thus it showed the South as the aggressor. There were no casualties during the Confederates bombing.

    Virginia was unwilling to fight against other Southern states so it decided to secede. This caused the states of Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina to secede too in May.

    First major battle of the Civil War. They ended up fighting for 10 hours. The union army lost 2,896 men. The Confederate army lost 1,987. The Confederates won. They fought in Virginia.

    General Grant decided to attack the South's railroads in Tennessee. The Union lost 13,047 men. The Confederates lost 10,694. Grant learned the South would not be pushovers.

    This was a battle in Kentucky. The Union lost 5,353 men. the Confederates lost 451 men. The Confederates won and it allowed them to launch the Kentucky Campaign.

    It was the bloodiest day of the war. The union lost 12,410 men. The Confederates lost 13,724. This battle allowed Lincoln to make the Emancipation Proclamation.

    Lincoln issued this so that only slaves behind Confederate lines were free so, slaves on the North were still slaves.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    This was fought at Gettysburg near a shoe factory. The Confederate's wanted new shoes. This was the last attempt the South would do to invade the North. The Union won but lost 3,155 men. The Confederates lost 3,155 men.

    Lincoln gave a speech that lasted less than 2 minutes. This speech united the Union states.

    This took place at Richmond and is where the Union took hold of the Confederate capital. It is here where Robert E. Lee finally surrenders to Grant.

    Lincoln and his wife were at the Ford's Theater in Washington when a man, named John Wilkes Booth, went in there and shot Lincoln.
