  • Missouri Compromise

    Representative James Tallmadge of New York introduced a bill that would admit Missouri into the Union, but the South feared that the entrance of Missouri as a free state would upset the balance of power between North and South.The North far outdistanced the South in population,there were 11 free states and 10 slave states so the compromise was that Missouri became a slave state and Maine was a free state .(source:http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/congress-passes-the-missouri-compromise)
  • Henry McNeal Turner and the black legislators

    Henry McNeal was a minister, politician, and the 12th elected and a bishop for a Church; he held meetings in Georgia in for the independent black people after the American Civil War.Henry McNeal was one of the most important legislature but it was difficult because he received life threatening calls and he was the last black legislature for the next 100 years.   • Dred Scott case

    This is one of the most important supreme court cases ever because Dred Scott believed it was only fair that e was a free man to because he lived in free territory. so he went to court and he sued the window of his master and then the trouble arose because people believed he shouldn't be free but he lived in free territory(cited: New Georgia Encyclopedia & New Georgia studies textbook)
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    The Battle of Gettysburg was the overall bloodiest battle in the civil war , this battle was a hard for the union and the confederate which both had a huge lost in this battle but it was the confederate who lost. The confederate was very weak when the union did one final attack which led to the huge lost for the confederacy army.(cited:New Georgia studies textbook and Georgia Info)
  • Andersonville Prison

    The city of Andersonville in Georgia was once a confederate prison which would hold captured union soldiers which was a horrific experience the reasons are because of the horrible sanitation,over crowding, and lack of naturtion.Many Union soliders died in this prison and if they crossed the line they would be shoot, 13,000 union soliders died out of 45,000 this was a huge lost for the north in the battles of died and captured soilders.(cited:New Georgia Encylopedia)
  • Sharecropping and tenant farming(1870's-1950's)

    Sharecropping and Tenant Farming was work for freed slaves who were now independent and poor whites they did this work so they could gain money and make a living for their everyday lives .This way was not always good at making money because most of the time works went in debt from borrowing money from their land owners and had to pay them back for everything such as seeds, tools, clothes and many more.
