    Maine was admitted as a free state and Missouri as a slave state. The rest of the Louisiana Territory was split into two parts the middle was at the 36 30' north latitude. The north side of the line slavery was illegal, on the south side of the line slavery was legal. The president at the time was John Quincey Adams.

    One of the busiest routes which streched 780 miles. It went from Independence, Missouri to Santa Fe in the Mexican province of New Mexico.
