The leader from the Confederacy for this battle was General Beauregard. The Union won this battle. This event was important because there was a strategic win to take control over the Mississippi River. It was also important because the Union gained control over Corinth and Memphis Tennessee.

Neither side won this battle, it was important because it caused the Emancipation Proclamation, McClellan had Lee's battle plans, it was the bloodiest day in American history, and the Union was able to prevent Lee from moving the war into the Northern Land.

    This battle took place in Virginia. The leader from the Union was General burnside and from the Confederacy was General Lee. The Confederacy won this battle. This battle was important because the South won again and after Antietam Lee retreated to Virginia.

    This battle occured during the spring of 1863 in Virginia. The leaders of this battle from the Confederacy included General Lee and Jackson and from the Union was Hooker. The Confederacy won yet another battle! This battle was important to American History because it ruined the Union plan of attacking Richmond.

    This battle occured in the summer of 1863 on July first until the fourth. The leader from the Union was General Meade and from the Confederacy were generals Lee and Pickett. The Union won this long battle and it was important because it was the day the south lost and they lost help from Britain and France. this was also important because it was the turning point of the war.

    This was not a battle but a siege. It occured in Mississippi and the leader from the Union was Grant and from the Confederacy was everyone! The Union won this siege and it was important because it was a major turning point and the confederacy split in half!

    The Wilderness Campaign took place around spring time between Washington D.C. and Richmond, Virginia. This was important because it started the six bloodiest weeks of the war. Both sides, North and South had many struggles with these conditions. This was when people started calling Grant a "butcher" because so many people died when he was put in charge.

    This intresting event took place in Alabama by the Mobile Bay. This was an important event because David Farragut, the highest ranking union officer led an attack of eighteen ships into Mobile Bay. Lots of Confederates attacked the ships and fired on them but despite this, Farragut kept on going and the invasion worked! The Union took the last Southern port east of the Mississippi River. The Union won this.
  • Sherman's March to the Sea

    On this day Sherman and his men became destroyers. They burned everything from cities to farmland. This occured in Georgia to the Atlantic Coast. They then continued to the Carolinas then destroyed anything useful in the South. This was important because thousands of enslaved people were freed.

    The Confederates and Lee withdrew and the Union then moved on towards Richmond. When Davis heard that the Union was moving towards Richmond, he started to destroy Richmond. Many documents, bridges, and weapons were set on fire. Davis and his cabinet then fled, but Davis ran away. One day, Lincoln and his son, Tad Lincoln were touring Richmond when many African Americans, whom used to be slaves started following them around in excitement while singing, laughing, and reaching out to touch him!
  • Surrender at Appomattox

    Surrender at Appomattox
    Lee and Jefferson retreated. However, Lee continued to fight and they surrounded and a final train was captured! Lee then accepted the surrender to Grant and Grant then met with Lee to discuss the ending of the war. The Union had won the Civil War. However there were some conditions of surrender for the North to offer to the South. They included, rebel troops got their weapons, the rebel officers kept their horses and no one would disturb the soldiers. The Civil War ended April 9,1865.
