  • The End of the White Primary

    In court case King v. Chapman the federal district ruled white primary was unconstitutional and ended white primary in Georgia.
  • The 1946 Governor's Race

    Eugene Talamadge, Melvin Thompson, and Ellis Arnall claimed governor's office.
  • The 1956 State Flag

    The 1956 flag was changed and it included the Confederate battle flag. It was viewed as racist
  • The Desegregation of the University of Georgia

    Hamilton Holmes and Charlayne Hunter were not accepted to UGA because they were black. Situation was brought to court and they were soon able to attend.
  • Student Non-Violent Cordinating Committee

    Group made of students organized successful sit-ins to peacefully protest.
  • The Albany Movement

    SNCC and local community protested policies inn Albany.
  • The March on Washington

    Civil rights activists gathered in Washington D.C. Martin Luther King Jr. gave the "I have a dream" speech.
  • The Civil Rights Act of 1964

    Forbade discrimination on the basis of sex and race in hiring, promoting, and firing.
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965

    Prohibited states from denying the right of any citizen to vote on accont of race or color.
