Civil Rights Act of 1964
This event ended segregation in public places and banned employment discrimination based on religion, race, gender or nationality. -
Voting Rights Act of 1965
It was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson, aimed to overcome legal barriers at the state and local levels that prevented African Americans from exercising their right to vote as guaranteed under the 15th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. -
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Assasination
On April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated by a sniper's bullet while standing on the second-floor balcony of his room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee.
