    Jackie Robinson joins the Dodgers
    Jackie Robinson became the first African American baseball player in the MLD in 1947. By becoming the first colored MLB player he broke the color barrier in modern times. This empowered black citizens and showed that they were just as good as the white citizens.
  • Montgomery Bus Boycott

    Rosa Parks ignited the Montgomery Bus Boycott because she was asked to move to the back of the bus but she refused. 381 days, this how long african americans did not ride the bus, this was important because it showed that the African American community stuck together and would do anything for equal rights.

    The Little Rock school board voted to integrate schools (combine blacks and whites), this caused outrage within the white families. 1000 federal paratroopers are needed to escort black students and preserve peace because the comotion was too much to handle.

    The Greensboro sit-ins were a series of nonviolent protests in Greensboro, North Carolina, in 1960. This led to stores and business removing their segregated policy, one step closer to being equal.

    The freedom riders were civil rights activist who rode buses around states into the segregated south to fight against segregation. This was important because they put a great pressure on the federal goverment to do something about segregation during these hard times.
  • James Meredith at the University of Mississippi

    5000 federal troops are sent by Pres. Kennedy to allow the student James Meredith to register for classes. Riots result in 2 deaths and hundreds of injuries, The white americans were disgusted at the fact that they were attending the same school as a black. This was important because it showed that Blacks were able to get the same education as whites did, He fought for human rights.

    16th Street Bombing
    On a Sunday moring when everyone was going to church a bomb went off on 16th street in Birmingham. This bomb was planted by white KKK members, tis bomb killed 4 young black ladies.This was important because in result of this bombing, On July 2, 1964, President Lyndon Johnson signed into effect the Civil Rights Act of 1964, this act outlawd any discrimination based on race, color, religion, gender, or national origin, thus ensuring full, equal rights of African Americans before the law.

    Selma March
    MLK led a 54 mile march on hundreds of black americans to support black voter registration, although they were attacked by police they finished the march to Mongomery. This was important because days later pictures were passed around and cause a major outrage, later congress passed the Voting Rights Act in 1965.

    The Black Panhers were a violent civil rights groups the believed that MLK wasnt being aggressive enough, they created riots all over the country. They were important because their seccess grew to a size of 5,000 full time party workers. Their impact on Black America can be measured by the response of the state. J. Edgar Hoover, then head of the FBI described them as “the number one threat to the internal security of the United States”.
