My Birth
On this day Joe and Kristen Gibbons had the best thing that ever happened to them, which was me. My greatness made up for the dispaointment that is my older brother Chris. I was born at Abington Hospital and then I was then brought home to Langhorn where i lived at the time. This is important because it is how i am alive. -
9/11
Al-qaeda highjacked four planes and cashed two of them into the world trade center, one into the pentagon, and the fourth into a feild in PA. This resulted in disaster and killed more than 3,000 people in New York. As a result of the attacks George W. Bush launched the war on terrorism. This lead the US into two wars. -
Operation Enduring Freedom
Operation Enduring Freedom was in response to the attacks on 9/11. It was Us and Brittish airstrikes on Afghanistan to stop the Taliban from sheltering Al-Qaeda and to stop Al-Qaeda's use of Afghanistan as a base. This started the war on Afghanista. Months after the start of this Operation many other countries sent troops to aid in the fighting. This is a war that America was a part of so it is a major governementevent. -
Patriot Acts
The Patriot Acts were passed and made it possible for the government to spy on its own people. This heightened surveillance. These were passed by George W. Bush to prevent something like 9/11 from happening again. These acts violated several freedoms and amendments such as the first and fourth amendment. -
Moved to New Jersey
In 2002 my family moved to New Jersey because there was another baby on the way and we did not have enough room for it in Langhorn. Also realestate in New Jersey was surprisingly cheap at the time. I would live there for about eight years. This is important to me because i lived ther for pretty much my whole childhood. -
My brother was born
My younger brother Joey was born and I became the middle child. He was the third son of Kristen and Joe Gibbons. Me and him are pretty close. However when we are not getting along he can beat me up, which is embarrassing because he is two years younger and about 50 pounds smaller. This is important to me because he is my family and one of my best friends. -
Homeland Security formed
Homeland Security was actually formed eleven days after 9/11 but became an actual governemnt branch on November 25. The branch's purpose is to keep the country safe from terrorist attacks and respond to future attacks. Homeland security also dealswith natural disasters such as hurricanes. Also the branch deals with boarder control. -
Invasion of Iraq
Iraq's dictator Saddam Hussein was allegedly building weapons of mass destrution and there was a major explosion in the capital of Baghdad. In response the United states and coaltion forces from Britian declared war on Iraq and invaded to "...Disarm Iraq, to free its people, andto defend the world from grave danger." The American Military was a part of the war making it a government event. -
George W. Bush Re-elected
George W. Bush beat Massachusetts senator John Kerry.Bush won by 2.4 percent of the votes. Bush won because of his veiws on traditional moral values and his leadership qualities that could help win the Iraq war. Bush was the only canidate to support an amendement that would ban gay marriage which somehow gained him alot of support from traditional voters. This would be Bush's second and final term. -
Got a Dog
On this day my family got a labradoodle we named Rudy. We named him Rudy because he had a red nose and rudy was actually short for rudolph. Last year he died. This was important to me because Rudy was a great dog and my bestfriend -
My youngest brother was born
My last brother dillon was born and was the last child in the family. This is important to me becuse he is my younger brother and i have to look out for him. -
Learned how to ride a bike
Learning how to ride a bike was very exciting. My dad taught me and when i finally could do it without any help i was so excited. I now ride my bike pretty much anywhere. Being able to ride a bike made me feel like i could do anything and it gaveme a sense of independence so it was a big thing for me. -
Phillies win the world series
My dad went to game five of the world series when they won, while he left the rest of the family at home. the next day however he took us all to the parade where we saw the team holding up the trophy on the bus in front of independence hall. we were in the first row of all the people so we got to see everything. -
Barack Obama was elected
Obama beat Senator John Mccain in the 2008 election. Barack earned 365 electoral votes and about 53 percent of the popular vote. Barack had promises of hope and change that inspired many and gained him many supporters. This is significant because he is the first African American president. Barack would be he president for the next eight years. -
I made my confirmation
I'm catholic so in sixth grade i had to make my confirmation. This means that i got the holy spirit, but more importantly it means i did not have to go to sunday school anymore. My confirmation name was Karl to honor my grandpa who passed when i was little. -
I moved to abington
In the summer before sixth grade my family moved from New Jersey to abington to get closer to our family that lives in Phillidelphia. We moved to Elkins park where i went to Mckinley for sixth grade. -
Osama Bin Laden killed
Twenty three U.S. Navuy SEALS raided Osama Bin Laden's secret compound in Pakistan. Osama was the mastermind behind the 9/11 plane highjackings and the leader of Al-Qaeda, the extreme Islamic terrorist group.This is significant because this is justice being served from the horrible events of 9/11. Also it prevented future attacks on America. For example Al Qaeda was planning to assasinate Barack Obama, and they planned an attack on the aniversary of 9/11, but all these plans were stopped. -
Iraq War ended
The Iraq war lasted nine years, and had many casualties. Hp=ow ever in 2010 Barack started to pull troops out of war infested Iraq and on Dec 21 2011, Barack welcomed the last troops home from Iraq officialy ending the war in Iraq. This is significant because it ended a war and let all the soldiers come home to their families. -
Got a job
My older brother Chris got me a job at the place he worked. He worked down th shore at a bar called The Springfield Inn as a cook. I got a job as the hotdog boy. This is important to me because i got a lot of money and getting a job gave me a sense of pride and responsibility. -
Hurricane Katrina
Hurricane Katrina was one of the most deadly and devasting hurricanes recoreded. It hit New Orleans and killed about 1,200 deaths. It caused roughly 125 billion dollars in damage. This affects the government because they're in charge of rebuilding things like roads and bridges that get destroyed. The government has to pay all that money from the damages.
