Columbus and the King of Portugal

Christopher Columbus asked for financial support to King John II of Portugal but he was rejected. This was the first time Crhistopher Columbus was planning a voyage to the Indies.

Second Marriage

After the death of Filipa Perestrello in 1985, Christopher Columbus married Dona Beatriz Enriquez de Arana.

Christopher Columbus starts his journey to the new world.

After getting financial aid from King Ferdinand II and Queen Isabel I of Castile, Christopher Columbus was able to prepare and get tripulation to travel to India. There were three caravels named La Niña, La Pinta, and Santa Maria where all the tripulation traveled. Chritopher Columbus was traveling in the Santa Maria.

Christopher Columbus arrives to America

Christopher Columbes arrived to the American continent and the first territory where he landed was an island that he named San Salvador (The Bahamas). During this voyage he explored part of Cuba and founded Hispaniola which is located in Haiti and Dominican Republic island and also he established a settlement called La Navidad.

Christopher Columbus returns to Spain

Christopher Columbus returns to Spain after spending three months in the New World. He arrived to Spain six weeks later.

Second Voyage

Sep 25, 1493

Christopher Columbus made a second voyage to the New World with seventeen ships and 1200 men. He discovered other islands (Lesser Antilles) and named them: Monserrat, Antigua, Redonda, Nevis, San Kitts, San Eustacius, Saba, Saint Martin, and Saint Croix. He landed in Puerto Rico.

Third Voyage

May 30, 1498

For his third voyage, Christopher Columbus sails with six ships. During this voyage he arrived to South America.

Fourth Voyage

May 12, 1502

He left Spain with four ships, he tried to land in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic but he was not allowed to do so. He visited Central America (Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama).

Death

May 20, 1506

Christopher Columbus died in Valladolid, Spain. His remains were moved many times to Dominican Republic, Cuba and Spain. His tomb is in Sevilla, Spain.
