    This intergovernmental organization had the first international mission to maintain world peace among the nations. The significance of this historical event is that it took away some of the power from Germany when they lost substantial territory and had severe restrictions placed on its military operations. Responsibility for the war was on Germany and they had to pay money to the Allies for damages and injuries during the war.

    Japan Invades Manchuria
    Manchuria, a northeast province in China was seized by the Japanese army. This area was rich in iron and coal so Japanese engineers and technicians build mines and factories. The significance of this newly conquered province was that Japan thought this would help their economic problems. It was also important because it was the first direct challenge to the League of Nations and eventually, in 1933 Japan withdrew from the league.

    The Italians were invading and they pushed back the poorly trained Ethiopian army winning a major victory by Lake Scianghi . The Fascist leader, Mussolini took over the capitol. I think the significance of this is how the Italians took the capital to expand its territories. Mussolini modeled this invasion just like Adolph Hitler did. This land also provided mineral resources which would help them.

    The significance is that this invasion violated the terms of the Versailles and Locarno Treaties. This act changed the balance of power in Europe and allowed Germany to be more aggressive in Eastern Europe.

    Spanish Republicans fought against Nationalists during this war. This was significant because Germany was involved in helping the Nationalists by contributing loans and troops to help them. This war helped take attention away from Hitler's plans for eastern expansion. It increased the division between democracies and dictatorships. Germany also gained valuable raw materials needed for expansion.
