    Carter appointed 40 women to Federal jobs
    This happened throughout his presidency, Carter appointed a record number of women to significant positions in the government. This showed that Carter was all for reform and that women should have more say in Federal jobs and in government.
  • Pardoned Vietnam War Draft Evaders

    Pardoned Vietnam War Draft Evaders
    Carter tried to help the nation heal from some of the wounds of the Vietnam War by pardoning the Vietnam War draft dodgers. This was an accomplishment because it showed that he was on the nations side and how he didn't show support for the Vietnam war and wanted to have America on his side.
  • Emergency Natural Gas Act

    Emergency Natural Gas Act
    Congress passes Emergency Natural Gas Act, authorizing the President to deregulate natural gas prices due to a shortage in supply. Carter signs the bill and announces plans to present an energy program to Congress. He later proposes the establishment of a cabinet-level Department of Energy.
  • National Energy Act

    National Energy Act
    Passed in 1977 but began in 1978, Carter wanted to shift his focus to nuclear energy and non-petroleum fuel sources. Carter funded fuel research and it was an accomplishment because it decreased the amount of harmful gases that were being used in the environment.
  • Camp David Accords

    Camp David Accords
    From September 1978 to March 1979, it was a conflict between Egypt and Israel because Egypt didn't recognize it as a country. Israel also occupied a lot of Egyptian land too. Carter guided Anwar el-Sadat and Menachem Begin to an agreement that was called the Camp David Accords. It helped release foreign tension.
  • The Department of Education

    The Department of Education
    Passed in October of 1979 but didn't begin until May of 1980. Carter expanded access to education, increased the number of early education programs, and then he also created the cabinet Department of Education. It was important because it showed that he cared this much about the education kids were receiving.
  • Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act

    Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act
    This act protected more than 100 million acres of land in Alaska and doubled the size of the nations park and wildlife refuge system. Carter believed that conserving fuel was a better way to not harm the environment and it was an accomplishment because it helped the wildlife in the US thrive.
