    Treaty of Versailles
    The Treaty of Versailles was a way to ensure a lasting peace. A peace treaty was negotiated and signed in 1919.The victors decided the terms of the treaty. Canada fought for itself and it demanded a seat at the Imperial War Cabinet and they got one. they also signed the Treaty on their own not through Britain.
  • League of nations

    League of nations
    A result of the Treaty of Versailles was this creation of the League of Nations. It was an association that promoted peace then in 1945, it was replaced by the United Nations. Canada was eager to join this League because it promised to end the evil of war. Canada was first a colony but after the war it was recognized as a nation and in time they only had to control their own actions. also, they joined as an independent country not a colony.
  • Chanak Crisis

    Chanak Crisis
    The Chanak Crisis was about whether to send troops to Chanak or not. King refused to send any but Meighen feel that they should. The decision was debated in parliament and by the time it had been done, the war already over and done with. King made the point that Parliament would decide Canada’s role in foreign affairs.
  • Halibut Treaty

    Halibut Treaty
    A treaty covering the protection of the Pacific halibut fishery was signed by Canada and the United States. King insisted that the Minister of Fisheries will go sign the treaty in Washington rather than getting it signed by a British representative. It set forth events that showed everyone, Canada can sign it’s own treaties independent of Britain.

    When King attended the conference ,he went there determined to resist British efforts in order to establish a centralized policy for all Dominions. Even though the foreign secretary from Britain considered King“tiresome, and stupid”, Prime Minister King succeeded. his helped Canada’s growing independence because now foreign decisions can be subject to various Parliaments and Governments of the Empire.

    It was about the further recognition of the autonomy of the Dominion The Balfour Declaration was drafted in 1926 and this updated the relationship between the Dominions and Britain It helped Canada because now it had the freedom over making it’s own decisions in foreign policies
  • King-Byng Crisis

    King-Byng Crisis
    It was a constitutional crisis for the post of Prime Minister. What happened was Byng, the governor general refused to dissolve government when king asked him to do so for an election This helped because it changed and redefined the role of the Governor General and that the Governor General shouldn’t ignore the advice of the elected government.
  • Statute of Westminster

    Statute of Westminster
    It was a law clarifying the power of Commonwealth Dominions and Canada’s Parliament. King used this to his advantage and towards Canada’s advantage as well. While facing foreign conflicts, he used the power to remain neutral. It helped the growing independence because because it gave Canada independence over its foreign policies
