British Acts

  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    The sugar act stated that molasses and or syrup of any kind would be taxed at a higher price. The act alsostated that the colonists could not grow or make their own sugar. The British created The Sugar Act to regain money lost in the French and Indian War.
  • The Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act
    King George the Third want to protect colonial interests so there you be no more war. So he sent some of his solider to protect them for remaining French and Native threats. It also declared that the British soldiers could raid and stay in any of the colonists houses.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was created to replace The Sugar Act, it was to replace it because the colonist were angered by The Sugar Act. The Stamp Act stated that there had to be a very expensie stamp put onto almost any type of paper product. The British Government thought this was fair because before this act the colonists now had to pay the same amount in taxes as the British citizens do.
  • The Townshend Act

    The Townshend Act
    The Townshend Act stated that no one could argue that the taxation was unfair. It was also created to prevent frauds and regulating abuses; the act did this by granting the British soldiers more power.
  • The Tea Act

    The Tea Act
    The Tea Act was passed to bring in more money to The East India Company. The British Parliament put a tax on tea because many people drank it and was a good source of income. Another reason they did this was to bring in even more money because England was still in debt.
  • The Coercive/Intolerable Acts: Boston Port Act

    The Coercive/Intolerable Acts: Boston Port Act
    Once King George the Third got news of the Boston Tea Party he was furious. And so he created the Boston Port Act, which stated that no one could load or unload any cargo that ships brought in, unless the government approved of the situation. This Act was essentially the colony's punishment for the Boston Tea Party.

    The Coercive/Intolerable Acts: MA Government Act an Administration of Justice Act
    After the British King heard of the Boston Tea Part he realized that the colonies were pushing further and further away. To "fix" the problem he instated the Massachusetts Government Acts. These acts stated that the colonists could not call a town hall meeting without consent from the governor. Also that if someone was tried for murder the governor would have the last call if they were guilty or not.

    The Coercive/Intolerable Acts: Quebec Act
    The Quebec Act stated that Quebec gained British land. It declared in the act that the British people living in Quebec can keep their Catholic faith. But Quebec would now gain a the land that they lost during The French and Indian War.
