The Normans

The Tudors
During the Renaissance, England was ruled by the Tudors. The most famous king is Henry VIII: he had 6 wives and in 1534 he broke from the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church and estabilished the Church of England, of which he was Head. With Elizabeth the II England was one of the most powerful. -
The Stuarts and the Hanovers
In the 17th and 18th centuries there were the Stuarts and Haovers dinasty. -
The Victorians
The Industrial Revolution started in England and made it the first industrial nation in the world. In 1837 Victoria was crowned queen and she reugned until 1901. During her reign, known as the Victorian Age, Britain built a large and powerful empire. -
World War I and World War II
In the 20th century Britai was involved in the two World Wars; Sir Winston Churchill, as Prime Minister, led the country and helped Britain and the Allies defeat the Germans. -

In 1952 George VI died and his eldest daughter became Queen Elizabeth II.
