NC Event - Eric Rudolph Captured in Murphy, NC
This is an event that I never heard about before, but thought about how often I hear terrible things like this happen now. A man, Eric Rudolph, was captured for setting off a bomb at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta and others at abortions clinics and gay bars. Luckily an officer from NC caught him to stop the crimes and fatalities.

U.S. Event - California Wildfire
The California wildfire in 2003 was something that was all over the news. I remember seeing video of clips of the blazing fire on the news with homes in such close vicinity and felt bad for all of the people who were going to lose their home.

The day I lost my father
The morning of December 10th, after worrying for an hour how I was going to get to school, I found out that my father had taken his own life. This was the hardest thing to accept, I didn't want to believe it and I couldn't believe it. A police officer had walked in with my mom and told my siblings and I the news. I didn't know what was going on fully until I saw my siblings reactions. We were in shock, we were angry, but mostly we were heart-broken. It felt as if our family had broken as well. -
Started High School
This was a next chapter in my life. After all the grief of losing my father I was actually looking forward to something new. I was excited about starting high school and meeting new people. I was also going to be going to the same school as my sister and best friend and was really excited that I was going to be able to see them there. I played soccer for the school team in 9th, 10th and part of 11th grade. -
U.S. Event - Bush Re-elected President
In 2004, George W. Bush was re-elected President of the United States. I didn't know anything about politics at the time and just went with what my mom wanted. I wonder if I ever went to school and talked about it as openly as Kindergartens did during the Trump vs. Hillary election?

NC Event - Goldsboro Butterfly Made it Mexico
I remember hearing about the monarch butterfly that flew to Mexico and the morning news that day. I was actually really impressed by the butterfly's ability to make that far!

First "Love"
During my freshman year at high school I met my first "true" love. I spent a lot of time with this person and opened up a lot to him. When I think back to that time of my life, I always think about Michael because he consumed so much of my time, even when I wasn't with him I was thinking about him. -
NC Event - Fraser Fir becomes official State Christmas Tree
Eighth graders petitioned for Fraser Fir to become the State Christmas Tree after learning about its benefits to our land and the economy.

U.S. Event - Hurricane Katrina hits United States

U.S. Event - Pluto downgraded to a Moon
After all my years of believing that Pluto was the ninth planet, I learned that Pluto was actually a moon. When I first heard this I didn't believe it because it went against what I learned in school, but science proves that it is in fact a moon.

NC Event - Residuals from Hurricane Alberto Flood Raleigh

Welcomed Jayden to the world
December 2, 2006 at 1:33 in the afternoon I had my son. This was a life changing event. After having him, life had so much more meaning to it and I felt this love for him that I had never felt before. And this feeling just overflowed into my life and I started to appreciate all the people in my life more. -

In 2007 house prices rose as the country was about to experience the recession of 2008.

NC Event - 2007 Drought
The drought from 2007 had a lot of people , as well as myself, worried. The conditions made me think about people in other countries who don't have water as readily as we do here. I was even more aware of my water usage during that time.

Graduated from High School (School year 07/08)
I finished out my 2007/2008 senior year of high school strong! I'd say I managed to balance school and being a new mom well. :) It was a lot but I had support and help from my family and best friend, those who have been there for me when I needed it the most.
